Daily Diary (DD) - Day 60 of 2024

1308hrs:

It is Day 60 already of the year 2024. It is also a leap year and thus today we are enjoying an extra day for the year. Let's hope that we can make the most of this day. 

I am still struggling with my sleeping pattern, even at this stage of the year when we are on the edge of the beginning of month 3 of 12.

It wasn't until 0500hrs that I got to sleep. Consequently, I couldn't get up before 1100hrs despite my best intentions.

1623hrs:

Now effectively using my laptop as a desktop, until I can procure a new laptop.

Instead of improving on yesterday (9 hours) I fell back to 10 hours today. The initial part is correct viz. getting to sleep around midnight but its the morning which is letting me down, or rather I am letting it down.

I will first of all prioritise the daily budget statement that I began publishing on the 20th of February. Whenever I have a multitude of tasks to conduct in the field such tasks do tend to lag behind. I did publish for 3 days in a row till the 22nd. Now, I have to make amends for the days of the 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th and today the 28th to bring AJK Public Treasury up to date.

1429hrs:

In search of a new laptop...given that my screen is now effectively unusable. I am using another screen to temporarily do work that needs immediate attention.

I am now veering back towards a normal sleeping pattern. I slept around midnight and got up at 0900hrs. Still 3 hours more than necessary but at least I now have a pattern to work on.

My screen is getting worse....

Meanwhile, the past few days of erratic sleeping behaviour meant that I had to crash hard to try and make up for it. Even though I did sleep early yesterday I didn't get up till about 1400hrs today.

My screen is playing up and typing here is like fending in the dark. I got up at 0600hrs today and I barely had an hour of sleep after working through the night.

1859hrs:

The 'rest' part of my day is getting efficient finally. Despite only 3 hours of very light sleep in the previous 24 hours, I made do with 8 hours of sleep in the 24 hours just passed. I fell asleep at midnight and got up at 0800hrs. Now, I just need to bring that down to 0600hrs and if I can do that for 3 days in a row it will become a routine. Our public and our territory can then expect much more from me, whom I have devoted almost the past 2 decades to.

0956hrs:

Have performed markedly better today. I didn't go to sleep till after 0400hrs because of engagement with co-citizens in different time zones. I also managed to get up at 0700hrs after not really being able to sleep. So, today's 'rest performance' has dwindled to half of the optimum level needed to give 100% every day. 

It is likely that the responsibility of work is now preventing me from slumbering furthermore. The change in weather is also a factor, though it should be noted that there is still frost in the mornings.

1159hrs:

Improved from yesterday by sleeping at 0200hrs. I had to follow Luton's visit to Liverpool in the English Premier League and until half-time it looked a dream with the score at Liverpool 0 : Luton 1. The second half did convert to a nightmare as Liverpool have built a tradition of finishing strong viz. Liverpool 4 : Luton 1. Simultaneously, I was also able to participate in an online programme on #InternationalMotherTongueDay :

Again, I struggled to get up. Eventually rising at 1100hrs accumulating a total of 9 hours rest, 2 more than yesterday and 3 more than the optimum.

I have much soul searching to do.

1124hrs:

I have cut down sleep but it is not in sync with the pattern I'm aspiring for. I didn't get to sleep till 0400hrs as there was much pending work to attend to that couldn't wait any longer. I did get up at 0800hrs but felt that was not enough sleep for my 51 year old body. after a while I returned to sleep but got up at 1100hrs. Therefore, 7 hours in total is better than than the 8 plus that I've been 'enjoying' for most of this year so far.

I'm devoting a lot of time to trying to explain to my co-citizens the need for them to financially play a part in change, that would be for the betterment of our people, It's the only weak link of our peace strategy for a thousand years:

0828hrs:

The icy temperature last night ensured that I fell asleep just before midnight. I woke at 0800hrs. Thus, I have regained a tolerable level of rest, although the optimum is of course 6 hours. I should concentrate on narrowing that gap now.

The following has long been overdue and we did experiment somewhat a few times before but I didn't think our people were quite ready. We can wait no longer.

This will be uploaded here on a daily basis with all relevant changes detailed in due course. We will also gradually backtrack as much as possible to 2009 when we began focussing totally on our own territory, so that the people of this territory clearly understand what one has to go through to consistently focus on public interest at the cost of everything else.

1310hrs:

Today developed similar to the day before yesterday. Got to sleep at around 0130hrs and despite getting up at 0900hrs fell back asleep again till about 1230hrs. The rain has been pounding down since yesterday as have strong winds been blowing. Abnormal weather in both directions (hot & cold) does affect life here and slows down movement of people even more so than normal.

I have reversed the downfall of yesterday to a considerable extent. It took me just beyond 0100hrs to fall asleep and I did manage to get up at 0900hrs this morning. The rain has returned and that cannot be a bad thing for our nascent crops.

After yesterday's success I have fallen back down to earth today. Yes, I did get to sleep around midnight and I even woke up at 0600hrs but I couldn't continue the good form of yesterday. I eventually got up at around 1430hrs. Perhaps I need to openly introspect even further.

0829hrs:

Finally! It has taken 47 days of this year to hit the wake up target of 0600hrs. I did try and go to sleep just beyond midnight and after a couple of hours of shut-eye without actually falling asleep, I got up to do some work at c. 0200hrs. By 0300hrs I tried again to sleep and although I did almost succeed on a few occasions - before I knew it - it was already 0600hrs. Not yet enough light to venture off on my morning walk. 

Thus, I worked for about half an hour before setting out.

Some of the forest cover behind my house has been burning for the past few days and one can notice the brown mounds where there used to be trees. Just how many matters of the State that the 'governing structure' in AJK abuses is beyond the capacity of any one person to log on a daily basis.

Economy:

The dividends of peace would gradually generate an economy - just in AJK - of 100 billion US dollars a year whereas in the prevailing conflict scenario it is generating effectively nothing (0) as diaspora remittances fuel its relatively miniscule budget (c. 830 million US dollars a year), which itself is used primarily as a commission by the occupying country to appease the pliant local 'Government' of AJK, so that they may be used to control the local population in return for government jobs and contracts/commissions for 'development', which hardly amounts to much more than 10% of the c. 830 million US dollars quoted above. 

Meanwhile, the occupying forces extract natural resources and deprive - in the shape of loss of local economy - various economic activities that would otherwise be generated here if it were an independent country. This extraction and deprivation amounts to anything between 10 and 20 billion US dollars a year. Thus, the 'Government' of AJK is selling us for c. 830 million dollars a year while depriving us of 100 billion US dollars a year.     

Practice:

Public opinion + public finance = public policy

To get us out of the conflict agenda imposed on us we need to re-invoke religious harmony to secure this durable peace. It will open avenues for regaining the knowledge and technical abilities needed to become a top 20 economy of the world. Our priority to revive the hitherto globally pre-eminent centre of learning in Sharda, as the University of Sharda is precisely in this regard. 

We have already achieved a thorough and representative sample of public opinion in AJK (from 2011 to 2016) published in 2017. This became necessary upon understanding that the election system in AJK is unconstitutional (it contradicts its own constitutional origin viz. its declaration of the 24th October 1947, it also contradicts the United Nations conflict resolution template on this region and it also contradicts the occupier's own constitution).

On the 23rd of May 2023 we embarked on #AJKReferendum2023 to clarify whether or not the people here want their own government to deal with all matters of public policy affecting the territory of AJK. Thus far, we have obtained c. 15% of the opinion of all adults above the age of 16 in this territory, including its diaspora. 

Overall, the activities of JKA PUBLIC AGENCY are multi-faceted and micro-incremental covering the subjects of security, governance, economy and culture.

Finance is what makes the world go round and generating a $100 billion economy in AJK has its cost, which should and can only be borne by the inhabitants of this territory. The immediate beneficiaries of peace bearing the cost would protect them as well as all those activists working on the ground in AJK, from external interference. Something we haven't been able to achieve in 77 years because our people have been reluctant to pay for peace.

JKA PUBLIC AGENCY will aim to contact each and every citizen of this territory (including the diaspora) whose assets exceed 1 crore Pakistani rupees to request that they share the cost of this peace initiative. It works out to be a fraction of the cost of a cup of tea/coffee or kahwa per day in the UK. viz. 50 pence or £0.50. 

The figures quoted below apply to the calendar year 2024 and are equivalent to the monthly amount requested. The amount could also be paid for the year by multiplying the monthly amount by 12.

For those of our citizens who are familiar with the almost 2 decades old ongoing work of JKA PUBLIC AGENCY and who have the means to pay according to the criteria above but decide not to, will after 3 months of being requested be put in a public interest offender's list. After a further 3 months that list will be made public. 

Too many of our co-citizens have sacrificed their lives, wealth & honour for the dignity and naturally endowed independence of thinking for the people of this territory. The more they sacrificed, the more they and their families had to suffer.

This burden of responsibility must be shared by all financially able inheritors of this territory. Otherwise we'll only continue fooling ourselves and over time the amount of genuine public activists in this territory will dwindle further, gradually evaporating everything that those who were principled among us stood for.

Slipped yet again today. I did get to sleep close to midnight and even woke at c.0800hrs but drifted back to sleep soon after and didn't really get up till 1500hrs.

Coming as close to the optimum as at any time in the past 45 days. Slept just after midnight and got up at c. 0730hrs. The weather is improving as there has been a distinct rise in temperature.

1155hrs:

Targeted sleep at midnight is the relatively easy part. Getting up by 0600hrs is the more challenging part. Nevertheless, despite trying from midnight I didn't get to sleep till c. 0200hrs but did get up at 0700hrs only to recline again after a short while and get up at 1100hrs.

This isn't the performance that will help me conquer the world!

I must battle on with myself and conquer myself before I can conquer the world.

A day of rest although I did get to sleep at midnight and did get up at around 0800hrs. Had 2 or 3 bouts of sleep ranging from later in the morning to the afternoon too.

Always a memorable day but it didn't have the impact necessary for public interest.

As can be assessed from the opening sentence of today's weblog there were 2 separate programmes to commemorate the freedom icon and martyr extraordinaire Maqbool Bhat. Since yesterday afternoon I had tried very hard till the early hours of the morning (0300hrs) to try and conduct a joint programme as per tradition but I failed. My sleeping pattern has been disrupted as I had to get up at around 0900hrs and I didn't get to sleep till beyond 0500hrs. 

Here's my contribution for the day nevertheless. For the record, the local parties who held their programme earlier in the day didn't even as much as invite me to speak:

1259hrs:

A bit sharper today. Got to sleep at the target time of midnight. Quite easily got up at 0800hrs, only 2 hours over the optimum level. Nevertheless, slipped back to bed after an hour and took another 2 hours of sleep.

41 days on into the new year - which will be a very eventful year in many respects - I'm still lagging behind. Much to worry about and little to present so far.

I made a deliberate effort to get to sleep at midnight. However, I couldn't sleep and eventually at 0300hrs I got up and spent a couple of hours monitoring what's happening in our Western neighbourhood. Despite refraining from paying attention to matters in our neighbourhood overall, one couldn't help prying into how election day turned out in Pakistan.

So much that always remained deliberately grey for 77 years has now become black and white.

From 0500hrs I did sleep till 1030hrs despite waking up at intervals from 0800hrs.

Performed much better today. Slept at close to midnight and got up at 0800hrs. However, I did retreat back to bed for a couple of hours before midday. Nevertheless, I sense a gradual return back to an 18 hour day soon.

I do try and analyse breaks in between to be a necessary 'evil' to lighten the load of what is essentially a very hectic life, with a burden of responsibility of national proportions.

Effectively another rest day. Sleeping at c. 0300hrs and despite waking up at intervals (0900hrs and midday) I didn't really get up till 1500hrs. At this rate. I will be staring into the abyss imminently. Much to do to turn it around.

This turned out to be a rest day after hectic hosting and activities over the past couple of days. Slept at c.0300hrs but woke up at 0800hrs...after a bit of work I fell back asleep at 0900hrs, waking again at c. 1400hrs.

Have returned to almost where I left off a day before yesterday. Although I slept at c. 0200hrs I did get up at 0800hrs this morning. The length of sleep is at the optimum level but the timing is still 2 hours out of sync.

Today is an important day in the journey towards reclaiming ownership of AJK by its people.

JKA PUBLIC AGENCY acting on the request Muhammad Aslam Khan (maternal grandfather & guardian of juvenile Abdus Samad) would earnestly like to bring to your attention the prolonged detention of Abdus Samad son of Muhammad Banaras Khan (date of birth: 22/03/2007) at an ‘Observation Centre’ or ‘Juvenile Home’ in Ranbir Singh Pura in Jammu district of Jammu & Kashmir, despite an order for his release by the Juvenile Justice Board in Poonch district on 25 August 2022 reference: https://www.thequint.com/news/india/pakistani-minor-boy-asmad-ali-kin-react-release-order-by-juvenile-board-held-for-crossing-line-of-control

Abdus Samad (also referred to as Asmad Ali in the press) has already been through a very turbulent childhood wherein he lost his parents at a very young age and has been brought up by his maternal grandmother, whose own health has deteriorated to a critical level because of her grandson’s prolonged absence.

The family have also engaged Advocate Zahid Ahmed Ghorsi of Jammu to obtain his release through due legal process and would be happy to arrange any relevant legal fees through your High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan.

We recognise that this is quite an unconventional way of resolving a matter that perhaps could have been resolved in a more simplified manner much closer to the time of it occurring. Over 2 years have now elapsed and we wish for a conclusion in the form of repatriation, ideally with Abdus Samad being handed over to his family at the crossing point in Tithrinote/Chakkan Da Bagh (operational between 2006 & 2018), where his grandparent’s home is barely metres away from.

We would request that you guide us as to how this matter can be amicably resolved to the satisfaction of all parties concerned and what relevant assurances would be needed in this regard.

We thank you for your time and hope this proves to be a worthy mechanism for conflict resolution.

Slipped somewhat today. A lot of events emerged over the evening and took me deep into the early hours of this morning. Slept at c. 0500hrs and managed to get up at midday. Of course, this upset the rhythm developed over the past few days. 

A lot of helter skelter today but composure comes from experience.

A strong message was needed to be displayed in public before what could be a testing day tomorrow for both the 'Government' of AJK and the public of AJK. We are particularly disturbed by reported news that Pakistan's tout in chief could be visiting the territory tomorrow to stoke further ideas of conflict in our people:

Getting sharper. The midnight anchor has stabilised into its third day. The gap has also been narrowed down to 8 hours. Just 2 hours short of the optimum level. Today, I got up at 0800hrs. The morning walk on an empty stomach is also a permanent feature.

Now, a lot has to be covered in a typical day and everything is done in sequence.

There are an increasing number of reports that suggest our people could be provoked into violence on the 5th of February, as this has touched a raw nerve with our occupiers who have traditionally (since the early 1990's) used this date to promote fake solidarity with the people of the Valley of Kashmir in particular. Here is an example:

The above scenario is quite in contrast with the example of religious harmony as displayed below from somewhere in the Kashmir Valley, whereby a Muslim whilst praying outdoors is subject to hailstones, upon seeing this a Sikh takes an umbrella to protect the Muslim from the inclement weather whilst he continues to pray:

Anchoring my daily sleep pattern from midnight has enjoyed its second day of success. Its the other side of the sleep pattern that I must concentrate on. Today I did wake up at 0900hrs but a lingering pain in my right knee forced me to stay in bed until about 1045hrs.

The weather is also brightening up.

A better day today, both in terms of weather and performance. Managed to sleep close to midnight and was able to easily get up at 0900hrs. The gap in achieving the optimum level of rest is now 3 hours. 

It is also encouraging that I have maintained a 100% record in weblogging in 2024. The first month was negotiated without a glitch. Let's see if this performance is maintained for the rest of the year.
