Daily Diary (DD) - Day 212 of 2022

Day 56 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 516 minutes.

The following makes our blood curdle:

English translation of above tweet:

(It is reported that) resident of Thorar in district Rawalakot Abid Hussain - a victim of State terrorism - has now lost his senses. Abid's sole crime was to raise his voice for his (fundamental) rights. For the sake of the Almighty everyone should raise their voice on this cruelty meted out to Abid Hussain.

End of translation....

English translation of above Facebook post:

Abid Hussain was arrested in Androt (near Azad Pattan) in tehsil Thorar on (Thursday the 28th of July) and brought to Thorar police station where his body was cut with a razor blade in various places (some visible in the photos above) in the middle of the night, then salt and various spices were put in those cuts to increase the pain of the torture meted out to him. His condition became critical and initially the police tried to conceal him from the public but upon a local judge's order to present him in court he was taken to CMH (Civil & Military Hospital) in Rawalakot, where he is undergoing treatment. A gross human rights violation has taken place. It is analysed that when a State becomes hollow and weak from the inside, it then reacts with excessive violence in order to try and spread fear throughout the public.

The public of Thorar and beyond (Awaami Action Committee Poonch) have vowed to avenge this cruel act for each wound and cut it has inflicted.

When transgression exceeds beyond what humans can endure it propels itself towards its own disintegration and the public is also hard on its heels.

End of translation....

My own sentiment:

My co-citizen has been tortured in this manner to maintain the sensual pleasures of the Pakistani governing elite.

Points taken from Abid Hussain's (son of Abdul Aziz) sister's video statement above on 29/07/22 by JKTV:

- He is of Kachul in Thorar...police arrested him from Azad has been 3 days...he was taken to Rawalakot and kept concealed.
- The police burned their own buses.
- Her brother is a heart patient.
- His spinal column (vertebrae) is also out of place.
- Her father fought for the Pakistani army and was martyred in the 1971 war. His body was received after 6 months. Two of her grand uncles were also martyred whose bodies were never recovered.
- We have sacrificed a lot for our country (Pakistan).
- The people we have voted for are imposing these police atrocities on us. The weak are always targeted in such circumstances.
- No due process of law has been observed in my brother's case.
- My mother is also a heart patient and I hope the mothers of these police officials go through the pain my mother is going through.
- A medical examination of my brother must be conducted forthwith and it must be done in the presence of lawyers and the public as we don't trust the police (she repeats).
- She also repeats that the police are not disclosing her brother's whereabouts and are providing contrasting and contradictory information, making us run from pillar to post, from one police station to the other and from one hospital to the other.

Sajjad Afzal's (president of Sarorajia Party - State of J & K) video statement who was an eye witness of events in Thorar on the day Abid Hussain was arrested:

- The public were peacefully agitating for their rights and all legal proceedings have been lodged against them, rather than those who disturbed the peace. There were some clashes between criminal elements and the police who had mutual grudges against each other but none of the former were arrested or charged.
- Abid Hussain was not even involved for over 99% of the protests.
- The police were extremely reluctant to give any correct information about Abid Hussain's whereabouts to anybody, including other law enforcement agencies. It was only after civil society activated lawyers including Javed Sharif (president of district lawyer's bar association Rawalakot) and the judiciary - High Court AJK - took action followed by a surprise visit by a local judge to a police chowki (sub-station or police post) and the main hospital in Rawalakot (CMH or Civil & Military hospital). Both venues had been falsely quoted by the police as Abid Hussain's whereabouts. The police did not want the public to see evidence of the brutal torture they had inflicted on him.
- The police subsequently tried to resuscitate him with vigorous massages and giving him heavy injections to try and make him look presentable in court the next day. They also threatened him to not disclose anything in front of the judge, else his transport business will be destroyed and his life will be made such a hell that he will no longer be able to even walk on the street. "We'll abduct you from your home and abduct the womenfolk of your home too", warned the police.
- Thus, Abid Hussain was put under enormous pressure - both physical and mental - by the police.
- The session judge in front of who Abid was presented ordered for a medical check-up while keeping him under judicial detention. Again, the fear is that the police will concoct a report suited to their version of events, rather than what actually happened.
- The public of AJK have to immunise themselves from such police brutality.

This writer contacted Sajjad Afzal before writing this report and confirmed the following:

Abid was arrested on Thursday the 28th of July in the evening when returning home from Azad Pattan on a private errand, totally unrelated to the protests. It is considered that he was arrested because he happened to be a relative of the already arrested president of the local trader's association in Thorar Saajid Azam.

(Update: 01/08/2022 at 1914hrs:)

A thorough interview is conducted of Abid Hussain by JKTV at CMH Rawalakot, where despite his police torture and his inability to even walk, he is being kept handcuffed to the hospital bed:

- Amongst Abid Hussain's torturers in the police force were DSP Tariq Khan and Sub-Inspector Idris Chugtai, along with up to 8 others.
- These dirty deeds were conducted at Baldiya police check post (chowki) in Rawalakot.
- He mentions shards of glass being used to make cuts in his body before salt and spices were put in them.

For the record:

Meanwhile, 2 sitting MLA's (Members of the Legislative Assembly) considered it opportune to participate in the 'All Parties Peoples Rights Forum - District Poonch' dharna (sit-in protest), which has become the focus of attention throughout AJK.

Leader of the Opposition - Choudhary Latif Akbar (PPP):

Former prime minister - Raja Farooq Haider (PMLN):

We shouldn't forget that we also have a sizeable diaspora in Pakistan's twin capital cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. They are also highly conscious of what is happening at home. Here, Advocate Nisaar Shah of Awaami Worker's Party can be seen addressing the public outside Islamabad press club:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 211 of 2022

Day 55 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 523 minutes.

We have a citation of the Citizen Public Opinion Survey - conducted throughout AJK between 2011 and 2016 - in an Indonesian academic journal:

The following is a public demonstration at Zero Point Mohra Chowk (Square) in Nikyaal. The major thrust here as with practically all other public rallies, demonstrations and sit-in protests throughout AJK centre around anger over Pakistan's attempt to annex this territory a la Indian action on 5th August 2019. Nevertheless, undercurrents of such action include protests against; expensive electricity, expensive flour, inflation, the dilapidated condition of Mohra Road in Nikyaal, other issues of public interest and against the unjustified imprisonment of political activists in Poonch.

They've also described this as a 'street and sector protest campaign', meaning that they are taking these protests to the people. Leading from the front is Advocate Shah Nawaz Sher, who is amongst the most active as well as most creative activists in AJK:

JKNAP and their student wing JKNSF is also active in Muzaffarabad. Indeed, most of their co-workers (or party members) are under arrest:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 210 of 2022

Day 54 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 533 minutes.

Second round of an hour for the third day in a row, in solidarity with all public protests and political prisoners throughout AJK:

JKNAP and their student wing are conducting this daily protest and they invited me to say my bit, which I did in Pahaari, as per convention now:

Poonch in AJK has taken the lead to give order to public protests throughout the territory:

'All Parties Peoples Rights Forum - District Poonch' is the aptly generic title given to the emerging mass movement in that part of AJK:

The AJK Government contends that they rebelled against an autocratic ruler in 1947. If we assume that to be correct, it would follow that their legitimacy totally relies on the public (the people or the inhabitants of the territory). It would then follow that they - the AJK Government - must follow the lead of the people, not the robbers.

Here's the Urdu version of the above demands:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 209 of 2022

Day 53 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 534 minutes.

Similar to yesterday, I ventured out to Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square for the second time in a day. I spent an hour in the evening then and an hour in late afternoon today too:

Evidence of a lawless territory:

Wednesday 27 July 2022

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 208 of 2022

Day 52 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 540 minutes.

If I keep this up, I will get there.

In the afternoon began another sit-in protest at this very square. JKNAP and their student wing JKNSF have various members (c. 24) including their president Liaqat Hayat in jail for struggling for their basic rights. They intend to conduct this sit-in protest between 1600hrs and 2000hrs (4 to 8pm) every day. Their demands as written in the following Urdu banner are:

1) To end all taxes on electricity bills.
2) To provide free electricity to the inhabitants of 'Kashmir'.
3) To unconditionally release all political prisoners including Liaqat Hayat, Javed Jaan, Samad Shakeel and the president of the trader's association in Thorar Saajid Azam.
4) To restore subsidy on flour and end inflation.

For the record, this was my second visit to the square today and hence I consider it appropriate that I provide a timed snapshot of my entry here too:

While we wait for other media outlets throughout the globe to sprinkle some attention on our woes, the following article by an Indian news outlet - News Intervention - has taken some initiative once again. It should come as no surprise that their website cannot be directly accessed from Pakistan or its controlled territories:

The other side of the coin is that India has banned JKTV since February 2020:

We have sent the following message to the Indian government:

In the spirit of open information for all leads to solutions for all, India should lift its restrictions on JKTV.

Whoever has the most productive narrative for JKA should emerge as guide for governance and public policy.

Otherwise IndoPak acrimony will continue to slow down civilisational needs in this region.

AJK Public Agency Note #004427072022

End of note....

Meanwhile, anybody who tries to open JKTV in India or in its controlled territories will probably receive the following message:

You can sense how critical the situation is in AJK from the following tweets:

Remaining in Poonch (which has always been the epicentre of public resistance) but moving from Thorar to Kaigalla: it is important for the sake of the Pakistani army that they don't end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. We want them to leave our territory peacefully, by phased arrangement and with dignity; if possible:

Various social media platforms keep us engaged and Twitter Spaces is no exception. This morning I engaged in yet another space hosted by JKTV:

While the discussion above was concentrated on Yasin Malik's incarceration, hunger strike and subsequent hospitalisation; the noble lady featured below thought it opportune to discuss the alleged 'benevolence' of the Pakistani State, even at this very late stage when Pakistan is hell bent on emulating - India's 5 August 2019 operation - to consolidate AJK into Pakistan's federation. Hypocrisy must have its limits and hence we've featured her, so that we can try and avoid being stung by fake religious sentiment every time we step forward to claim our rights:

This is what I wrote after the programme:

This sister of ours Rehana Ali

Twitter handle: @rehana_kashmiri

conducted a zealous propaganda campaign against me while I was in jail (Flag case Mirpur 2020/21) and is using the same references that she rejected about me to speak up for Yasin Malik in jail!

Anti Tanveer Ahmed (Pro Pakistan) while Pro Yasin Malik (Anti India)

All 3 links above appear to have been conveniently deleted. What remains of her Youtube channel are the 2 videos below. Analysts who've described Pakistan's existence as being solely on the basis on hatred for India can obtain some confirmation from these 2 videos:

Image url

How much of the following can she & other zealous pro-Pakistani propagandists grasp?

Pakistan is a hard-wired endemically corrupt country and society, that uses Islam as a currency to practice hypocrisy by default, for usually very short-term bestial benefits.

No doubt there are good and forthright people there too but they are a very small and almost invisible minority, for all practical purposes.

We can no longer tolerate Pakistanis or those who favour JKA's or Kashmir's accession to Pakistan; to use international legal references to try and:

1) Twist arguments in their favour while omitting important information. Telling part of a true story and concealing those truths which prove their complicity or failures.

2) Feigning sympathy for others while deceiving them. Pretending to donate while looting the other. Advertising their supposed generosity while stifling, ridiculing or threatening those who calculate their loot.

3) The human rights they claim to campaign for are the very human rights they deny to their own people - let alone us - while we are their neighbours who have extended all liberties and benefit to them for 75 years, thinking they are our Muslim siblings fighting for the Ummah. They fooled the people of Hindustaan pre 1947 by stressing that Islam is in danger when the slogan 'Muslims are in danger' did not work. For reference check Muslim League polling results in 1946 and those prior to raising the 'Islam in danger' slogan.

4) They teach us by rote to hate Hindus and Jews in particular while cosying up with anybody and everybody for their own marginal benefit, including Hindus and Jews.

Hence, my assertion that Pakistan has got to be the most significant conspiracy against Islam and Muslims in the past 1,500 years.

1) Pakistan is repeatedly trying to fool Allah the Almighty by repeatedly trying to fool Allah's most intelligent creation - humans - in the name of Allah.

2) Its existence thrives on hatred and conflict and has thus affected over 1.5 billion people of the Indian subcontinent and many others too, apart from its neighbours.

1) Criticising Pakistan does not mean we favour any other country in the world and think atrocities do not happen elsewhere. AJK Public Agency maintains geo-political neutrality in the strictest sense and would afford Pakistan every facility that it would offer any other country.

2) I'm simply narrating and warning of the implications of its existence in its current form. There's no reason why it cannot re-invent itself and play fair with its own people and the rest of humanity.

3) Using religion - and any religion for that matter - for selfish, lustful, spiteful or deceitful purposes has never sustained itself for long throughout history. It always ultimately fails because people get fed up of hearing the same 'divine' excuses to decades old unabating problems. Pakistan's debt crisis is one such example. Singapore produces more wealth than Pakistan despite being less than 1/1000th of its size and with a population less than 3% of Pakistan's.

4) This is a plea for introspection - especially for Muslims - many of who think condemning non-Muslim crimes and concealing Muslim crimes is a service to Islam. Many Muslims also think Muslim governments can necessarily provide better security, welfare, justice and opportunity to Muslims compared to non-Muslims. That non-Muslims are occupiers and Muslims are saviours, which has proved true in some cases historically but it is by no means a universal truth. What is truly fascinating is that even Western born and bred Muslims commonly hold such beliefs as above.

If I cannot convince my Muslim brother or sister about him or her denying my right to exist (read proposed 15th Amendment AJK) then how do I convince any level headed impartial observer that I have been exclusively denied my right to exist by non Muslims?

My Muslim brother and sister won't even let me speak because he or she conveniently pretends to be my advocate when he or she knows that I am a more able and fruitful advocate of my own condition.

Besides how can a dubious 'claimant' of a piece of land be an advocate of the 'titled' landholder?

How can you teach us to hate & kill (proxy propaganda & militancy) another 'claimant' while making love and mutually beneficial agreements with that other 'claimant', at the expense of the 'titled' landholders?

The Pakistani State's hypocrisy has come full circle. 75 years of this 2 nation experiment has generated ample empirical evidence to re-evaluate:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 207 of 2022

Day 51 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 556 minutes.

A terrible head, face, neck and tongue ache on the left side of my organs have created acute pain since yesterday evening. The pain only recedes if I stand up, sit down, face the sun or walk. If I lie down the pain will kick in almost immediately. Thus, I couldn't sleep a wink last night!

Whatever happens leading up to Pakistan's final dirty deed must be available for the record. This is a letter written today by eminent jurist and renowned expert on the UN template on JKA Dr. Nazir Gilani to the current prime minister of Pakistan. There will be consequences if Pakistan disregards its own (already flawed and assumed) reasoning for its presence in this territory, if it tries to emulate India's 5th August 2019 operation in the coming days and weeks of 2022:

Here's a Twitter note in this regard:

The following address by the president of Mirpur District Lawyer's Bar Association Imtiaz Raja in Mirpur's main public square today clarifies the nationwide sentiment throughout AJK:

The points which are converging as the central tenets of the AJK-wide furore against Pakistan are as follows - as enunciated in the video above:

1) No to fuel price adjustment and other unwarranted taxes added to electricity bills.
2) No to proposed 15th amendment.
3) No to amended tourism act.
4) No to unwarranted arrests of citizens for raising their voices for their justified rights.

The following news doing the rounds in AJK today did startle me before prompting me to clarify whether such an announcement has actually been made officially, by the Conservative Party in the UK.

Rehman Chisti MP

The Urdu news above (not established to be correct, at least not yet) is translated as:

(It is) a big honour for the inhabitants of Kashmir that a Kashmiri has become the foreign minister of the UK

Hailing from the suburban village of Battangi in (tehsil/subdivision) Pateeka, district Muzaffarabad and the son of Maulana Abdur Rehman Chisti is barrister Ata-ur Rehman (Chisti). From the depths of our heart we congratulate him for being selected as the foreign minister of the United Kingdom. This is (truly) a big honour for the land of Kashmir. We hope that he will play a positive role for the freedom movement of his motherland Jammu Kashmir.

End of translation....

Now, we understand that Rehman Chisti became Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for North America, Sanctions and Consular Policy) on 8th July and that he was even in the running for PM but this news that he's become foreign minister does not have a news source. I presume that won't be decided until the new Conservative leader emerges? But I also presume he may still be a candidate for the foreign minister's role.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 206 of 2022

Day 50 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has increased to 580 minutes.

This is my latest arrival yet and it is partly to do with my venture out to Tithrinote yesterday, for the 3rd time in 6 days. We did arrive back in Dadyaal by c.0100hrs but I couldn't sleep until beyond 0400hrs..

We did warn our people in the early hours of yesterday and also alerted global civil society. We received positive feedback too and then this happens in Rawalakot this evening:

A solution requires genuine political representation of the 'titled' inhabitants of JKA at the table, where all interested external claimants from near and afar can understand how those people feel, when you've occupied their land and made a mess of attaining global peace, as enunciated in the UN Charter:

As the evening trots on, we are getting further critical news from Rawalakot. This time in Thorar:

Sunday 24 July 2022

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 205 of 2022

Day 49 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has increased to 489 minutes.

Earlier in the day, rather in the very early hours of the morning (at 135hrs) I wrote the following note with global civil society in mind, in particular:

The political atmosphere in all districts of AJK at the moment is charged on an unprecedented scale.

Despite everything the public is pointed, disciplined and peaceful in its unrelenting demand for independence.

The manner of demand may be diverse and emerge from a range of emotions and ground realities that all derive from 75 years of neglect.

The inhabitants of AJK - in ever rising numbers - are in a state of defiance but remain pragmatic in the knowledge that their own survival is linked with that of their neighbours and the rest of the world.

AJK Public Agency Note #013524072022

The writing is most definitely on the wall. Let me translate the following:

English translation of main tweet:

If in the 15th amendment the word 'State' and reference to the UN are taken out then this would be considered to be a 'Pakistani 5 August 2022'. It will have no constitutional or legal status. The presence of Pakistan in Azad Kashmir has a different jurisprudence than that of India (in Jammu Kashmir).

End of translation..

I made some notes on the following in-depth article on the 15th amendment by Athar Masood Wani:

The biggest question looming in every analyst's mind: Who is behind this 15th amendment?

Kashmir Council wasn't audited for 12 years according to this writer.

15th amendment will not only reverse all gains made in 13th amendment, it wll make KC the supreme constitutional authority over AJK, with absolutely no provision for accountability, transparency or merit. AJK government budget will be at their total mercy.

Tourism act will allow any Pakistani institution to take whatever land they see fit, irrespective of environmental or local needs.

According to the 13th amendment only the AJK Assembly can invoke legislation. For the Pakistan State to do so is unethical as well as unconstitutional (as it is trying to do in reference to the proposed 15th amendment). It also contradicts Article 257 of its own constitution.

End of notes....

Today, I ventured out to Tithrinote on the LOC in Poonch for JKLF's 'Azadi Dharna' (Freedom Sit-in Protest) for the 3rd time in 5 days. The following message is poignant for the international community and global civil society:

Saturday 23 July 2022

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 204 of 2022

Just returned from a exceedingly unexpected high volume sit-in protest at Tithrinote on the LOC in divided Poonch (and divided Jammu Kashmir & Allied areas by logical extension).

In a few hours we will proceed with our unbroken daily 2 hour stint on....

Day 48 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has increased to 456 minutes.

It was always going to be difficult after such an energy consuming day yesterday, which didn't wind up till beyond 0200hrs this morning.

Friday 22 July 2022

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 203 of 2022

Day 47 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 391 minutes.

At 1000hrs, we proceeded to walk to Amb where an entourage of vehicles were waiting to take us to Tithrinote for JKLF's 'Azadi Dharna' on the LOC.

AJK wide the 'Right to Rule' concept of citizenship is being bellowed out - very visibly and audibly - by it's inhabitants (former subjects of 'Dogra Raaj' and aspiring citizens of 'Awaami Raaj). The following from Mirpur is a visible example:

The day from Dadyaal to Tithrinote where JKLF's huge Azadi Dharna is now in full swing:

Thursday 21 July 2022

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 202 of 2022

Day 46 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

My punctuality deficit has increased to 393 minutes.

It was torrential rain for the last half an hour or so of our 3 and a half hour journey from Rawalakot to Dadyaal, this morning. Despite the herculean effort, we were still 22 minutes late for duty.

The following programme requires deliberation and further clarity. There is UN jurisprudence and there is a conflict resolution mechanism outside that framework/template too. Both can compliment each other nevertheless and this is what I want to elaborate on:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 112 of 2024

1006hrs: It is now routine that I automatically wake at around 0500hrs. Even an alarm clock is no longer necessary. Today I got up at 0515hr...
