Daily Diary (DD) - Day 230 of 2025

1454hrs:

Another day at home after feeling exhausted from 2 days of relatively intense travelling, given that I'd just come out of a 6 day hunger strike not much more than a week ago.

This is time for the family as well as time for improving the 20 year old independent research record.

Wherever important documentation is released or published by anybody related to this territory, I do make a point of documenting it for the public record.

Here are a few important examples for today:

1) Press Release Rawalakot Arrests

The United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) strongly condemns the arrest and torture of peaceful protesters in Rawalakot, Poonch (PoJK).

Peaceful protest, freedom of association, peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, and the right to self-determination are fundamental human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), including:

- Article 19 – Freedom of opinion and expression  

- Article 20 – Right to peaceful assembly and association  

- Article 5 – Protection from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment  

- Article 9 – Protection from arbitrary arrest, detention or exile  

- Article 1 – All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights  

- Article 21 – Right to take part in government and express political will  

The arrests and torture of individuals who were peacefully chanting slogans such as “We want freedom,” “No to accession,” and “Kashmir humara chhor do” are clear violations of these international laws and principles. Such oppressive tactics cannot silence dissent or suppress the legitimate aspirations of the people.

UKPNP will raise this issue at all international forums, including the United Nations, and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.

2) Condemnation of Human Rights Violations in POJK: Call for International Intervention

Date: 17 August 2025

On 13 August 2025, a volleyball match organized by the Poonch Volleyball Association in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (POJK) turned into a scene of political repression and violence.

Political figures, including MLA Hassan Ibrahim and Tahir Anwar Advocate, incited the crowd with political slogans. When spectators peacefully raised slogans affirming their Kashmiri identity, police—acting on the direct orders of these leaders—launched baton charges, tear gas shelling, and arbitrary arrests. The following day, false FIRs were registered, and a search campaign against innocent civilians was initiated.

This is a gross violation of fundamental rights, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and protection from arbitrary detention. Such actions silence the voices of Kashmiris and deepen mistrust in the region.

We Demand:

Immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.

An end to harassment and intimidation of civilians.

Accountability of politicians and officials who ordered these unlawful actions.

International monitoring of the situation in POJK.

We call on the United Nations, human rights organizations, and the global community to urgently intervene and hold those responsible accountable.

Justice, dignity, and freedom are the rights of every citizen — the people of Jammu & Kashmir must not be silenced through force.

3) Subject: Urgent International Appeal to Save the Life of Mr. Yasin Malik

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am compelled to draw your urgent attention to the case of Mr. Yasin Malik, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), who has been convicted under a process that raises serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and compliance with international human rights standards. 

Mr. Malik’s 13-year-old daughter, Ms. Razia Sultana, has appealed to the conscience of the international community to save her father from imminent execution. This appeal goes beyond one individual case—it concerns the fundamental principles of justice, human dignity, and the protection of political freedoms in conflict-affected regions.

Under Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the right to life is protected as a supreme human right. The imposition of the death penalty following a trial that does not meet international standards of fairness violates Article 14 of the ICCPR, which guarantees the right to a fair and impartial hearing. 

Moreover, Article 19 of the ICCPR upholds the right to freedom of opinion and expression, which includes peaceful political expression such as that exercised by Mr. Malik throughout his political career. 

The execution of a political leader under questionable judicial circumstances risks silencing dissenting voices and undermining the democratic principles that the United Nations and the international community strive to uphold. It may also escalate tensions in an already volatile region, thereby threatening international peace and security, contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter (Articles 1 and 55).

I therefore respectfully urge your good office to:

1. Intervene with the Government of India to halt the execution of Mr. Yasin Malik;

2. Ensure that he is afforded his right to a fair, transparent, and impartial trial in                        accordance with international standards;

3. Send an independent fact-finding mission or engage relevant UN Special Rapporteurs         to monitor and report on his case;

4. Safeguard his life and uphold the principles of justice, human rights, and the rule of            law.

This is an urgent matter of human rights protection and international legal obligation. The world must not allow injustice to be carried out under the shadow of legality.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 229 of 2025

Woke up in Dadyaal after not much sleep there. A lot of adrenaline prevented me from doing so. I spent a lot of important years in that very accommodating city. 

I also caught a few hours in Kotli.

Earlier this morning I completed a draft letter for diplomats, in reference to the plight of Yasin Malik, upon the request of a co-citizen. Here it is:

Your Excellencies, 

Memorandum

In the background of a Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) led armed struggle for independence and reunification of the territory of Jammu & Kashmir since 1988, the subsequently imprisoned chairman of the JKLF Yasin Malik, publicly renounced violence as a means of resolving political conflict in 1994.

This strategic step towards non violence was not only welcomed in India but was also encouraged by the ‘International Community’ in general, led by Britain and the United States of America (USA) in particular. Successive Indian governments since 1994 had regularly given a prominent audience to Yasin Malik and others who had adopted peaceful means of struggle for their political objectives. British and American diplomats had frequently praised this stance and repeatedly gave some assurance of a move towards resolution in such an environment. Facilitating Yasin Malik to address Harvard University and the US State Department became examples of this encouragement towards a peaceful resolution.     

Conditions and opportunities for sustained dialogue continued till the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Narendra Modi came into power in 2014. The various “gentleman’s agreements” lost substance as the aforementioned government began cracking down hard on what they identified as “Kashmiri Separatists” and all possibilities of continuing dialogue gradually evaporated. Post 2018 many a political activist was indefinitely incarcerated - including Yasin Malik - and this process was intensified upon revocation of what remained of a “Special Status” of Indian Administered Jammu & Kashmir on August the 5th 2019, whereby it is reported that over 4,000 citizens of the Kashmir Valley remain imprisoned, including human rights defenders and journalists simply documenting these changes. 

In due course, the BJP led government disregarded all previous attempts at securing peace through peaceful means and re-opened over 3 decades old cases against Yasin Malik and others, sentencing the latter to life imprisonment. 

Of late, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has requested the Indian judiciary to convert Yasin Malik’s life sentence into the death penalty.

It is our informed opinion that if indeed Yasin Malik is hanged (like his leader Maqbool Bhat), hardliners within the freedom movement will revive what they would consider to be a dormant militant policy, abandoned since 1994. This would lead to the loss of yet another generation to violence and the world should do whatever is possible to avert repeating such a tragic scenario.    

We thus appeal to the world’s conscience through their respective governments and other multilateral forums to utilise their good offices, to urge the prevailing government in India to return to a framework of peaceful dialogue and to help create a conducive environment for such.

An iron-hand policy may fulfil temporary objectives and present favourable optics in the short term but as some Indian policy analysts have admitted, every power has to ultimately return to dialogue to achieve a sustainable solution. 

By releasing Yasin Malik and other political prisoners who originate from the conflict ridden Kashmir Valley, that conducive environment for result oriented dialogue may be revived.

In the afternoon began another sit-in protest at this very square. JKNAP and their student wing JKNSF have various members (c. 24) including their president Liaqat Hayat in jail for struggling for their basic rights. They intend to conduct this sit-in protest between 1600hrs and 2000hrs (4 to 8pm) every day. Their demands as written in the following Urdu banner are:

1) To end all taxes on electricity bills.

2) To provide free electricity to the inhabitants of 'Kashmir'.

3) To unconditionally release all political prisoners including Liaqat Hayat, Javed Jaan, Samad Shakeel and the president of the trader's association in Thorar Saajid Azam.

4) To restore subsidy on flour and end inflation.

For the record, this was my second visit to the square today and hence I consider it appropriate that I provide a timed snapshot of my entry here too:

While the discussion above was concentrated on Yasin Malik's incarceration, hunger strike and subsequent hospitalisation; the noble lady featured below thought it opportune to discuss the alleged 'benevolence' of the Pakistani State, even at this very late stage when Pakistan is hell bent on emulating - India's 5 August 2019 operation - to consolidate AJK into Pakistan's federation. Hypocrisy must have its limits and hence we've featured her, so that we can try and avoid being stung by fake religious sentiment every time we step forward to claim our rights:

How much of the following can she & other zealous pro-Pakistani propagandists grasp?

Pakistan is a hard-wired endemically corrupt country and society, that uses Islam as a currency to practice hypocrisy by default, for usually very short-term bestial benefits.

No doubt there are good and forthright people there too but they are a very small and almost invisible minority, for all practical purposes.

We can no longer tolerate Pakistanis or those who favour JKA's or Kashmir's accession to Pakistan; to use international legal references to try and: 

1) Twist arguments in their favour while omitting important information. Telling part of a true story and concealing those truths which prove their complicity or failures.

2) Feigning sympathy for others while deceiving them. Pretending to donate while looting the other. Advertising their supposed generosity while stifling, ridiculing or threatening those who calculate their loot.

3) The human rights they claim to campaign for are the very human rights they deny to their own people - let alone us - while we are their neighbours who have extended all liberties and benefit to them for 75 years, thinking they are our Muslim siblings fighting for the Ummah. They fooled the people of Hindustaan pre 1947 by stressing that Islam is in danger when the slogan 'Muslims are in danger' did not work. For reference check Muslim League polling results in 1946 and those prior to raising the 'Islam in danger' slogan.

4) They teach us by rote to hate Hindus and Jews in particular while cosying up with anybody and everybody for their own marginal benefit, including Hindus and Jews.

Hence, my assertion that Pakistan has got to be the most significant conspiracy against Islam and Muslims in the past 1,500 years.

Further:

1) Pakistan is repeatedly trying to fool Allah the Almighty by repeatedly trying to fool Allah's most intelligent creation - humans - in the name of Allah.

2) Its existence thrives on hatred and conflict and has thus affected over 1.5 billion people of the Indian subcontinent and many others too, apart from its neighbours.

Note: 

1) Criticising Pakistan does not mean we favour any other country in the world and think atrocities do not happen elsewhere. AJK Public Agency maintains geo-political neutrality in the strictest sense and would afford Pakistan every facility that it would offer any other country.

2) I'm simply narrating and warning of the implications of its existence in its current form. There's no reason why it cannot re-invent itself and play fair with its own people and the rest of humanity.

3) Using religion - and any religion for that matter - for selfish, lustful, spiteful or deceitful purposes has never sustained itself for long throughout history. It always ultimately fails because people get fed up of hearing the same 'divine' excuses to decades old unabating problems. Pakistan's debt crisis is one such example. Singapore produces more wealth than Pakistan despite being less than 1/1000th of its size and with a population less than 3% of Pakistan's.

4) This is a plea for introspection - especially for Muslims - many of who think condemning non-Muslim crimes and concealing Muslim crimes is a service to Islam. Many Muslims also think Muslim governments can necessarily provide better security, welfare, justice and opportunity to Muslims compared to non-Muslims. That non-Muslims are occupiers and Muslims are saviours, which has proved true in some cases historically but it is by no means a universal truth. What is truly fascinating is that even Western born and bred Muslims commonly hold such beliefs as above.

If I cannot convince my Muslim brother or sister about him or her denying my right to exist (read proposed 15th Amendment AJK) then how do I convince any level headed impartial observer that I have been exclusively denied my right to exist by non Muslims? 

My Muslim brother and sister won't even let me speak because he or she conveniently pretends to be my advocate when he or she knows that I am a more able and fruitful advocate of my own condition. 

Besides how can a dubious 'claimant' of a piece of land be an advocate of the 'titled' landholder?

How can you teach us to hate & kill (proxy propaganda & militancy) another 'claimant' while making love and mutually beneficial agreements with that other 'claimant', at the expense of the 'titled' landholders?

The Pakistani State's hypocrisy has come full circle. 75 years of this 2 nation experiment has generated ample empirical evidence to re-evaluate:

After a 30 day break from our Kotli district wide tour we have decided to change our strategy in order to address how and why our 50 day sit-in 'Public Policy Workshop' at Shaheed Chowk (Martyr's Square) was stalled. 

What were our shortcomings and what did our adversaries do to ensure our public remains ignorant and hence apathetic to their own 'rights struggle'.

I did want to begin the next phase of our struggle today but yesterday's extremely hectic schedule after many a day of rest had exhausted me by late evening. The day began late today. Too late to commence.

Yes, I am getting sloppy of late in inputting my daily entries. Day 155 of 2019 was again one such error.

Ramadhan was tough but it brought some discipline. The stomach has been refreshed, among a multitude of other health benefits.

I got up early enough for Eid prayer at Eidgaah, Mirpur. The amazing thing is that I could not recognise anybody there and neither did anybody recognise me.
