It is Eid today. The sacrificial Eid.
The most apt message I received today was the following in Urdu:
دُنیا بھر میں عید قربان
منانے والے انسانوں کو عید مبارک۔۔۔ یاد
رہے بکرا, گائے بیل اور دنبہ اہم نہیں اصل اہم تو جزبہ قربانی۔ فلسفہ قربانی کو
سمجھنا ضروری ہے۔ بغیر فلسفہ سمجھے جانور زبح کرنا تو گوشت کھانے کا ایک بہانہ
ہے۔ریاست کی وحدت, شناخت,تشخص, بنیادی انسانی حقوق اور آزادی کے لئے قربانیاں دینے
والوں کو سرخ سلام۔۔۔۔عظیم ہے وہ لوگ جو قوم کے بہتر کل کے لئے اپنا آج قربان کر
رہے ہیں۔ یہی تو ہے اصل فلسفہ قربانی۔۔۔۔۔۔
It can be translated as follows:
Eid felicitations to those humans throughout the world that are sacrificing on Eid. It should be remembered that goats, cows, ox and sheep are not important, it is the passion for sacrifice and the philosophy behind it, that are important to understand. To slaughter animals without understanding the philosophy behind sacrifice, is merely an excuse to eat meat.
A red salute to those sacrificing themselves for the unity, identity, integrity, fundamental human rights and freedom (of the people) of the State (of Jammu Kashmir & Allied areas). Noble are those who sacrifice what they have today for a better tomorrow for the nation.
Indeed, this is the actual philosophy of sacrifice.

An important aspect of the cleaning programme in Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square is to ensure round the clock surveillance, monitoring and caretaking of the Square - otherwise neglected by all and sundry - including the municipality. We have decided to divide 24 hours into 2 hours each so that we can find 12 co-citizens to take 2 hour turns round the clock. My time slot is already committed to 0800hrs to 1000hrs.
Accompanying me on this Eid day to clean the Square as well as donate 2 hours a day is young Mehran Khwaja Advocate:
