Daily Diary (DD) - Day 20 of 2025

0458hrs:

Even 2 minutes before the beginning of the day.

....

My morning walk - first thing after waking up - on an empty stomach is into its 3rd consecutive day.

....

Meanwhile, Dr Nazir Gilani has produced another Urdu note on a similar theme to yesterday's note:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 19 of 2025

0500hrs:

3 days in a row is good going.

....

I'm also into my 2nd day of resuming the practice of walking for at least an hour on an empty stomach. This is an essential routine which I kept up best in the 2015/16 era but then it became irregular before becoming erratic.

This routine is an important source of strength for both mind and body.

....

Dr Nazir Gilani continues with his rich vein of writing form of late - this time in Urdu - which with his permission and suggestion JKA PUBLIC AGENCY will translate into English in due course:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 12 of 2024

1200hrs:

Fell asleep soon after midnight (the earliest in a while) and somehow woke at 0300hrs feeling afresh. However, I didn't think 3 hours would fulfil my quota of needed sleep and tried to go back to sleep, which didn't really happen till about 0730hrs. I eventually woke just after 1100hrs. What I should have done is bite the bullet and got up at 0600hrs while I was still struggling to go back to sleep.

I'm spending a lot of time weblogging about my sleep pattern as this winter it just isn't gelling properly. This also affects what and how much I can do for the rest of the day.

....

Today, we initiate another regular activity viz. 'Awaami Adalat' (Public Court) or Loga Ni Kacheri (in Pahaari) which will be conducted every Friday at Jammu Chowk Sehnsa, whereby matters that are unresolvable with the government will be put to the public at large to take suggestions for remedy:

Here's a photo of the event too:

....

The following video is an important reference, not so much for its title but how it describes British instigation of warfare in Jammu Kashmir & Allied (areas) as early as the 18th of August 1947 (not the 22nd of October 1947 as traditionally thought). This subject is broached from 11 minutes 11 seconds onwards under the sub-title 'Who ordered the 1947 attack on Kashmir from the Pakistan side? Surprising revelations!' :

As can be gleaned from Col Ajay Raina (R)'s commentary (he mentions that he has also penned these notes in a book with proofs) he mentions:

General Masservy (Commander in Chief of Pakistan forces) signed an operational order (Operation Gulmarg) on the 18th of August 1947.

The invasion began on the night of 8th October 1947 in Poonch, 2 weeks before the 'tribal attack'.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 354 of 2023

1114hrs:

We will be digging deeper into the functioning of local governance in our home tehsil (subdivision) Sehnsa over the next few days, weeks and months.

....

I shall use the following words written by Dr Shabir Choudhary himself to introduce the following video:

A dialogue with Tanveer Ahmed. Make Azad Kashmir military free zone. Peaceful struggle to continue.

We don't need protection from the Pakistani army. There shall be no war with India. Promotion of trade, peace and regional cooperation is needed.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 353 of 2023

1023hrs:

Under the public policy subject of 'security' lies the very thorny subject of demilitarisation. It has finally come to the fore given the prevailing circumstances in AJK. Most of our co-citizens have tried to 'cushion' the imperative by insisting that demilitarisation take place simultaneously on both sides, which more than anything else keeps us stuck in the quagmire we find ourselves in and indeed even lays the ground for a back door agreement to permanently divide our territory between India and Pakistan, with tacit international sanction.

In 1947, our co-citizens in Poonch didn't make such 'cushioned simultaneous' calculations when they rebelled against the autocratic king while being militarily bolstered by Pakistan under the carefully monitored eye of colonial Britain. In 1987, our co-citizens in the Valley of Kashmir likewise didn't make such 'cushioned simultaneous' calculations when they rebelled against the Indian State while being militarily bolstered by Pakistan, supported with life, effort and resources by most citizens in AJK under the carefully monitored eye of the international community (including Britain and the United States).

So, when the 'boot is on the other foot' so to speak and where logical as well as strictly peaceful initiatives to force the Pakistani State gradually out of AJK are imperative (for all public policy goals to convert this region from a 'conflict economy' to a 'peace economy') we seemingly hesitate to take responsibility to act. Yes, this is an internally created and driven political process using peaceful, ethical, democratic and legal means without taking any tacit or open support from the rest of the world; however we tend to hesitate, prevaricate and foolishly rely on others to fulfill responsibilities that are essentially our own.

Now, do we only act when directed and supported by others for ends that suit them while destroying the diverse character of our territory and enforcing us to lose generation after generation to conflict while also making us economic migrants throughout the world or do we 'take the bull by the horns' and assert our sovereignty and neutrality over AJK?

This is the challenge right before our eyes!

....

Meanwhile, we reiterate our stance that whatever we wish for the people of AJK (fundamental rights as equal human beings on par with the best standards practiced in the world) is what we wish for the people of Gilgit Baltistan, Ladakh, the Valley of Kashmir and Jammu. There can be no compromise on the freedom of expression & movement, right to assembly & association and recourse to law, including international law.

Hence, we have signed the following letter to the Indian ambassador in London via Amnesty International UK:

....

Today marks the first written agreement between the JK JAAC (Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee) and the AJK government.

The Malik Waseem 'Land & People' reference case has taken a new turn, especially after civil society (X-LOC) made contact with the actual inheritors of this concerned evacuee property earlier this month. Many thanks to Romi Sharma in particular:

This has obviously shaken the land mafia of Muzaffarabad and their accomplices within the so-called 'nationalist' fraternity in the capital, both at home and abroad.

Dr Shabir Choudhary zeroes in on this point in the following video:

"Pakistan is sending the wrong message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dispute of Waseem Malik, resident of Muzaffarabad, must be resolved honourably so that he can care for his wife and children."

(Update) 1853hrs on 20/11/2022:

Dr Shabir Choudhary continues with Malik Waseem's theme in a consecutive video, while also responding to some feedback:

"Accession treaty and India’s obligations. Who is responsible to protect the rights of Waseem Malik?
Under the obligations of United Nations Security Council Resolutions Pakistan cannot violate fundamental rights of people of Jammu and Kashmir."

1758hrs:

Day 152 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

0753hrs

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 2 minutes.

Punctuality percentage: 90 days on time or early of 152 = 59% punctual.

The following was written as a preamble to today's evening shift on Twitter Spaces:

This is a hard - circular - route and fraught with unnecessary complications.

Organisations that want to address foreign presence in JKA using democratic, ethical, legal and peaceful means are crowded out from doing so and the people do not enjoy any civil protections in this regard.

Those civil protections need a codified (citizen's) charter inclusive of all and agree-able by the majority. That is only possible on the ground in AJK.

via Public Assembly and Public Agency

Now, how can I address that in Muzaffarabad?

(Answer)
I can't.

Is there a political alternative?

Is there a representative political platform available anywhere?

(Answer)
There isn't.

So, how do I engage with the public?

What are the terms of reference between the public and me?

Who am I devoting my energies, resources and time to?

On a specific political party platform that is not representative of the population and will not gain the required attention of the 'international community'?

Or do I engage the public as a whole and pursue a Public Assembly session (to prove representative political consensus) that will succeed in engaging the 'international community'?

1924hrs:

Day 72 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

0800hrs

My punctuality deficit has neither decreased or increased today. It remains stable at 322 minutes. It almost seems as if time has stood still, after 72 days of punctuality practice.

Update 2057hrs:

Something very gory and irresponsible happened in Haveli, Poonch AJK about 5 hours ago. Here's the Facebook post released a few minutes earlier:

For the sake of those who do not delve into the FB post here's what I wrote:

The #PakistanArmy is in serious trouble in AJK.
About 5 hours ago it is reported that a Pakistani Army truck travelling through #Haveli #Poonch #AJK crushed a local - Zahid Badar Qureshi - to death before fleeing from the scene.
The public is in uproar and the local administration has yet to engage.

We have some bloody pictures of the scene too. We strongly feel the evidence must be in public for the sake of accountable governance - which we have yet to witness - since 1947:

....

Update at 2317hrs:

No criminal proceedings have been conducted yet and the local administration is still frozen. Unconfirmed reports are surfacing that the Pakistani army driver was inexperienced and incapable of handling the army truck. The public have continued to vent their anger towards the Pakistani army at Kacheri Chowk in Haveli.

Their chants:

Qaatil Qaatil! (Murderers Murderers!)

Fauj Qaatil! (Army Murderers) with obvious reference to the Pakistani army

..then

Ye jo dehshat gardi hay (This terrorism)

Is ke peechay wardi hay (has a uniform behind it) with obvious reference to the Pakistani army's uniform

..then

Ye jo maara maari hay (These killings and mayhem)

Is ke peechay wardi hay (have a uniform behind it) with obvious reference to the Pakistani army's uniform

..then

Zaalimo jawaab do (Answer us oh oppressors)

Khoon ka hisaab do (give an account of the blood) you have spilled

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 213 of 2022

1135hrs:

Day 57 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

0735hrs

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 491 minutes.

....

I did venture out to the Square in the afternoon once again - after a break of 2 days - to express solidarity with all our political prisoners; including those of JKNAP, JKNSF and others. However, I forgot to take a customary picture on entry.

....

It is the first day of August, a memorable month over the years for us in Jammu Kashmir & Allied areas (JKA). The number 47 and the words forced, fortification and other less pleasant words come to mind in Dadyaal AJK, at the minute.

Then I decide to transport the above to another social medium, as a tweet:

....

It is obvious that the Pakistanis have thrown caution to the wind:

....

The following is an example of how the Pakistanis try to hoodwink the world on Jammu Kashmir:

A Scottish activist - Claire Bidwell - who has been vigorously, sincerely and wholeheartedly campaigning for a just and democratic solution to the 'Kashmir Issue' - effectively soon after India swooped to annex its controlled part of JKA into its federation on August the 5th 2019 - has been spun a yarn by the Pakistanis that if the inhabitants of JKA vote to accede to them, then they will give them the right to be independent, which they argue is otherwise unavailable!

How they've treated us (in terms of trying to control our thoughts to extracting our resources) over the past 75 years is more indicative of their behaviour and intent. Their words have a repetitive pattern to it, viz. promise the world to a people by exploiting their religious sentiments and then exploit their land & resources to your heart's desire.

This was precisely her question to me:

"Am I right in thinking that in the Pakistan constitution they do say that if there is a bilateral vote they will then give Kashmiris the vote?"

Before I post my response, here is the exact wording of the 'carrot' in question:

Article 257: Provision relating to the State of Jammu and Kashmir

"When the people of the State of Jammu and Kashmir decide to accede to Pakistan, the relationship between Pakistan and the State shall be determined in accordance with the wishes of the people of that State."

My response:

No, that is their spin. What is written is what should be read word for word in Article 257 of the Pakistani constitution.

It is like saying, you must join us in order for us to allow you to be what you want to be.

Any sane person would respond by saying that I'd rather be what I am without your interference and why should I take the risk of joining you in order to be what I already am?

Further:

Our State was independent before Pakistan invaded us in 1947 and dishonoured an agreement they made with the ruler (Maharajah), who made this agreement to protect his State's independence.

The Pakistani invasion facilitated the Indian entry which was made under a fresh agreement with the Maharajah which the Indians did not follow through, blaming Pakistan for their interference.

Thus, the inhabitants were straight-jacketed by this British colonial designed railway track, whereby on one side of the track are Indian allegations against Pakistan and on the other side are Pakistani allegations against India.

These mutual allegations and cross LOC firing have proved a ruse to solidify India and Pakistan's presence in JKA.

20% of the animosity generated between Hindus and Muslims led to India's division and 80% of the animosity generated by India and Pakistan amongst the inhabitants of Jammu & Kashmir has kept our territory divided, to the convenience of India and Pakistan and at our peril.

This 80/20 railway track designed and implemented by colonial Britain in JKA needs to be understood in order to resolve this well-designed conflict; that immediately and ultimately benefited the United Kingdom, kept India and Pakistan relatively poor and ensured that the people of JKA enjoyed no rights whatsoever for 75 years.

....

Meanwhile:

....

Amongst millions of other issues 'The Democratic Deficit' should be a theme to discuss and address leading up to Pakistan's annexation attempt in the coming days.

In my assessment it is the most critical deficiency in our people across the board at this crucial juncture of our history, from the public of AJK - at home and in the diaspora - to the members of the Pakistani Occupied Assembly in Muzaffarabad, essentially a growing city in the administrative province of Kashmir in a divided JKA. Which has proved to be not much more than a pretender to represent the political aspirations of the whole c. 85,000 sq miles of territory.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 208 of 2022

1846hrs:

Day 52 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

0744hrs

My punctuality deficit has decreased to 540 minutes.

If I keep this up, I will get there.

....

In the afternoon began another sit-in protest at this very square. JKNAP and their student wing JKNSF have various members (c. 24) including their president Liaqat Hayat in jail for struggling for their basic rights. They intend to conduct this sit-in protest between 1600hrs and 2000hrs (4 to 8pm) every day. Their demands as written in the following Urdu banner are:

1) To end all taxes on electricity bills.
2) To provide free electricity to the inhabitants of 'Kashmir'.
3) To unconditionally release all political prisoners including Liaqat Hayat, Javed Jaan, Samad Shakeel and the president of the trader's association in Thorar Saajid Azam.
4) To restore subsidy on flour and end inflation.

For the record, this was my second visit to the square today and hence I consider it appropriate that I provide a timed snapshot of my entry here too:

1830hrs

....

While we wait for other media outlets throughout the globe to sprinkle some attention on our woes, the following article by an Indian news outlet - News Intervention - has taken some initiative once again. It should come as no surprise that their website cannot be directly accessed from Pakistan or its controlled territories:

....

The other side of the coin is that India has banned JKTV since February 2020:

We have sent the following message to the Indian government:

In the spirit of open information for all leads to solutions for all, India should lift its restrictions on JKTV.

Whoever has the most productive narrative for JKA should emerge as guide for governance and public policy.

Otherwise IndoPak acrimony will continue to slow down civilisational needs in this region.

AJK Public Agency Note #004427072022

End of note....

Meanwhile, anybody who tries to open JKTV in India or in its controlled territories will probably receive the following message:

....

You can sense how critical the situation is in AJK from the following tweets:

Remaining in Poonch (which has always been the epicentre of public resistance) but moving from Thorar to Kaigalla: it is important for the sake of the Pakistani army that they don't end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. We want them to leave our territory peacefully, by phased arrangement and with dignity; if possible:

....

Various social media platforms keep us engaged and Twitter Spaces is no exception. This morning I engaged in yet another space hosted by JKTV:

While the discussion above was concentrated on Yasin Malik's incarceration, hunger strike and subsequent hospitalisation; the noble lady featured below thought it opportune to discuss the alleged 'benevolence' of the Pakistani State, even at this very late stage when Pakistan is hell bent on emulating - India's 5 August 2019 operation - to consolidate AJK into Pakistan's federation. Hypocrisy must have its limits and hence we've featured her, so that we can try and avoid being stung by fake religious sentiment every time we step forward to claim our rights:

This is what I wrote after the programme:

This sister of ours Rehana Ali

Twitter handle: @rehana_kashmiri

conducted a zealous propaganda campaign against me while I was in jail (Flag case Mirpur 2020/21) and is using the same references that she rejected about me to speak up for Yasin Malik in jail!

How much of the following can she & other zealous pro-Pakistani propagandists grasp?

Pakistan is a hard-wired endemically corrupt country and society, that uses Islam as a currency to practice hypocrisy by default, for usually very short-term bestial benefits.

No doubt there are good and forthright people there too but they are a very small and almost invisible minority, for all practical purposes.

We can no longer tolerate Pakistanis or those who favour JKA's or Kashmir's accession to Pakistan; to use international legal references to try and:

1) Twist arguments in their favour while omitting important information. Telling part of a true story and concealing those truths which prove their complicity or failures.

2) Feigning sympathy for others while deceiving them. Pretending to donate while looting the other. Advertising their supposed generosity while stifling, ridiculing or threatening those who calculate their loot.

3) The human rights they claim to campaign for are the very human rights they deny to their own people - let alone us - while we are their neighbours who have extended all liberties and benefit to them for 75 years, thinking they are our Muslim siblings fighting for the Ummah. They fooled the people of Hindustaan pre 1947 by stressing that Islam is in danger when the slogan 'Muslims are in danger' did not work. For reference check Muslim League polling results in 1946 and those prior to raising the 'Islam in danger' slogan.

4) They teach us by rote to hate Hindus and Jews in particular while cosying up with anybody and everybody for their own marginal benefit, including Hindus and Jews.

Hence, my assertion that Pakistan has got to be the most significant conspiracy against Islam and Muslims in the past 1,500 years.

Further:

1) Pakistan is repeatedly trying to fool Allah the Almighty by repeatedly trying to fool Allah's most intelligent creation - humans - in the name of Allah.

2) Its existence thrives on hatred and conflict and has thus affected over 1.5 billion people of the Indian subcontinent and many others too, apart from its neighbours.

Note:

1) Criticising Pakistan does not mean we favour any other country in the world and think atrocities do not happen elsewhere. AJK Public Agency maintains geo-political neutrality in the strictest sense and would afford Pakistan every facility that it would offer any other country.

2) I'm simply narrating and warning of the implications of its existence in its current form. There's no reason why it cannot re-invent itself and play fair with its own people and the rest of humanity.

3) Using religion - and any religion for that matter - for selfish, lustful, spiteful or deceitful purposes has never sustained itself for long throughout history. It always ultimately fails because people get fed up of hearing the same 'divine' excuses to decades old unabating problems. Pakistan's debt crisis is one such example. Singapore produces more wealth than Pakistan despite being less than 1/1000th of its size and with a population less than 3% of Pakistan's.

4) This is a plea for introspection - especially for Muslims - many of who think condemning non-Muslim crimes and concealing Muslim crimes is a service to Islam. Many Muslims also think Muslim governments can necessarily provide better security, welfare, justice and opportunity to Muslims compared to non-Muslims. That non-Muslims are occupiers and Muslims are saviours, which has proved true in some cases historically but it is by no means a universal truth. What is truly fascinating is that even Western born and bred Muslims commonly hold such beliefs as above.

..

If I cannot convince my Muslim brother or sister about him or her denying my right to exist (read proposed 15th Amendment AJK) then how do I convince any level headed impartial observer that I have been exclusively denied my right to exist by non Muslims?

My Muslim brother and sister won't even let me speak because he or she conveniently pretends to be my advocate when he or she knows that I am a more able and fruitful advocate of my own condition.

Besides how can a dubious 'claimant' of a piece of land be an advocate of the 'titled' landholder?

How can you teach us to hate & kill (proxy propaganda & militancy) another 'claimant' while making love and mutually beneficial agreements with that other 'claimant', at the expense of the 'titled' landholders?

The Pakistani State's hypocrisy has come full circle. 75 years of this 2 nation experiment has generated ample empirical evidence to re-evaluate:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 137 of 2022

1943hrs:

Break day 23 of district (Kotli) wide tour

....

I considered it important - in the public interest of JKA - to copy into my weblog the following couple of conversations in the House of Lords today. I thought the manner in which the honourable minister Lord Ahmad - speaking on behalf of the government - evaded the role of the United Nations and stressed on Indo-Pak bilateralism in particular, was very telling:

Lord Ranger Conservative

My Lords, as the noble Lord, Lord Hussain, knows, two Sikh traders in Peshawar were murdered last week because of their religion. In 1947, the British created two countries: one to promote people on the basis of their religion and the other to promote people regardless of their religion. You can see the two different countries now. People in Pakistan—Ahmadis, Sikhs, Christians and Hindus—are prosecuted and forcibly converted, and Shia mosques are attacked. This must stop on the other side as well. Who is supplying arms to the terrorists in Kashmir? Who is training them and who is encouraging them to create disruption in a paradise? In Kashmir, people of different faiths lived in harmony until 1947. We must not allow people to devalue fellow Kashmiris on the basis of their religion.

Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon Minister of State (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office)

My Lords, I should also declare that the other half of my family comes from Pakistan, including Lady Ahmad of Wimbledon. Certainly, our relationship demonstrates that there can be no conflict—I say that on the record—and you can lead a life and build a life together in a mutually understanding and loving way. That said, on the importance of the issue in Pakistan, again, we have a very important and constructive relationship with the Government of Pakistan. My noble friend raised issues relating to minorities, including Sikhs. Being of the Ahmadi Muslim community myself, I assure the noble Lord that I am acutely aware of the challenges faced by minority communities in Pakistan, and we raise these in a constructive way. It is important, when it comes to issues—including those of Kashmir—for both countries to move forward, mutually and together, and agree that there is a bright future for both countries, which share so much in terms of culture, language and, one hopes, a common, shared future of prosperity for the wider region.

Lord Collins of Highbury Opposition Whip (Lords), Shadow Spokesperson (Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and International Development), Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Lords

My Lords, one of the Minister’s many responsibilities is the United Nations. Of course, the conflict in Kashmir is one of the longest unresolved conflicts on the agenda of the United Nations. If we are to find a lasting settlement to end this ongoing conflict, that can be achieved only by India and Pakistan working together. Therefore, as Minister for the United Nations, what is he doing to ensure that the UN focuses on bringing the two sides together to seek a long-lasting settlement?

Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon Minister of State (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office)

My Lords, I agree with the noble Lord about the importance of India and Pakistan talking to resolve all issues. It is a long-standing position of the Governments of both sides. We seek a resolution for all disputes, including that of Kashmir, and the best way to do so is for both countries to find their solutions together.
