Daily Diary (DD) - Day 318 of 2025

1525hrs:

Countdown to end of 2025: 48 days

Every evening I am conscious of getting to sleep around the target time of 2000hrs (8pm) but somehow time drags to about 2200hrs before I am making serious preparation. This morning, my eyes were wide awake at 0600hrs but I remained determined to sleep till around 1030hrs, about 7.5hrs later than my target.

However, I remain committed to addressing this.

....

The following statement is attributed to Shaukat Nawaz Mir of Muzaffarabad, member core committee JAAC. In summary, he is saying that we have given a deadline of 90 days to the (Pakistani) government to resolve all matters as agreed in the (4th of October 2025) agreement. If it doesn't, then a new public strategy will ensue and the 'Powers That Be' will be responsible for whatever happens:

🚨

The following is a telling statement from Arif Urfi of Muzaffarabad, who also works as a correspondent for Geo News in Pakistan. On the subject of changing prime ministers in AJK, he makes the following statement (translated from Urdu to English):

For those who do not possess the democratic right to choose their own prime minister, to what extent would they have the authority to choose their democratic and political future in a plebiscite (referendum)?

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 186 of 2022

2201hrs:

Day 30 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

0808hrs

....

So, there is now a growing perception that those who struggle for freedom or fundamental rights in AJK are being pushed against a wall.

The gap of relative intolerance displayed by the occupying powers on either side of JKA is being rapidly narrowed, it is perceived.

There were many other arrests yesterday and have continued today throughout AJK, particularly in Rawalakot and Muzaffarabad. Activists of JKNAP, its student wing JKNSF and now UKPNP have been detained. Simultaneously, there has been a sharp increase in the volume of protests by the general public, particularly in reference to the shortage of electricity delivered throughout AJK. Some areas even report a pattern of 1 hour on and 3 hours off throughout the 24 hour cycle.

Here's just one example of arrests being made today in Muzaffarabad:

....

Meanwhile, let's take you back to the British colonial age in India for a moment, via Gilgit Baltistan. We can borrow an Urdu phrase framed by the iconic activist Shafqat Inqalabi of Ghizer yesterday:

Translated thus:

Those cursed creatures who proclaim that they obtained freedom for the sake of cow's meat, what do they know that the English used them in the name of the cow to accomplish their motives.

End of translation....

I would suggest that our people are still a million years behind European colonial strategy. We need to catch up real fast or else we'll disappear as a political entity.

1603hrs:

Time is running ahead like a hare on a mission.....

Here's a post from the archives which will remain relevant, not least because it quotes Pakistan's founding father:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 203 of 2018

2351hrs:

This is monsoon season in what is already quite a cool environment here in Rawalakot. This is how it looks during the day:

....

It has been fascinating to read about debates in the House of Commons between 1919 to 1935

Here are a couple of links which enhance our theory that much of what happened in 1947 during the transfer of power from the British Indian Empire to India, Pakistan and the creation of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute may have been rushed by the outgoing empire but there was nothing unplanned about the manner in which they departed:

New Clause. - (Ruler of State may exclude application of provisions as to water supply.) (11 Apr 1935)

...the whole of the machinery for settling disputes hanging in the air.
My hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Wycombe (Sir A. Knox)
mentioned the very dominating position in which the State of *Kashmir*
stands in regard to water supplies. Already there has been a dispute
between the two Provinces of the Punjab and Bombay in regard to water
emanating largely from that State of *Kashmir*, and I...

Orders of the Day - Government of India Bill.: Fifth Schedule. - (Composition of Provincial Legislatures.) (8 May 1935)

...submitted to the Joint Parliamentary Committee suggesting that at
some date there would be a federation of Moslems comprising Baluchistan,
Sind, the Punjab, the North-West Frontier Provinces and *Kashmir*, and
it was proposed that with them was to be federated Afghanistan. Such an
arrangement is not in accordance with our traditional ideas of Moslem
loyalty, and would be quite inconsistent....

....

Here in AJK, we are suffering from that legacy which the United Kingdom of today consistently absolves itself of any responsibility to address. Leaving us at the mercy of a Pakistan that has yet to invest in the art of governance after more than 70 years.

Meanwhile, the sky in Muzaffarabad looked rather more active as captured by our co-citizen:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 278 of 2026

1239hrs: Day 123 had a rhythm to it and a pattern. Most of AJK (including most of its entry points from the State of Pakistan) have been shu...
