Daily Diary (DD) - Day 147 of 2026

0504hrs:

On this day of Eid we (3 of my co-citizens including my son and I) find ourselves waking up in Bagh rather than our respective homes in Sehnsa, Panjera & Khuiratta. A meeting with the incumbent 'prime minister' of AJK - that should have taken place when we were a matter of a few feet away in Muzaffarabad yesterday - has to be happen at least 140 kilometres away in the 'PM' s home village of Palangi (Mumtazabad) today. The distance from home in Sehnsa is another 140 or so kilometres away, where I should be with the rest of my family, as the PM is with his family.

This is just one more example of why there is almost zero governance in this territory. I have to meet him as I want to save lives in this utterly peaceful rights movement, that began just over 3 years ago and is swelling towards a genuinely free government (free from outside interference and equally responsible along with its citizens).

Here's the interview (courtesy Awam ki Awaz):

I'll re-produce the text note introducing this video, as follows:

Seeking the public stance of #PMAJK at his home village #DharraRajgan #Palangi #Mumtazabad #Haveli on Eid day (Wednesday 27 May 2026).

1) Maintaining #Peace in the territory at all cost.

Bringing all internal elements (legal title holders as opposed to claimants) onboard to ensure no further deaths occur in #AJK in the context of #RightsMovementAJK , by adopting a foolproof  internal #Security mechanism, without external interference.

2) Introducing financial #Transparency in all matters of public interest, particularly related to 'public representatives' in all shapes & forms.

Proceeding towards independent research, mukaalima (dialogue), inclusivity and financial transparency to make sense of where we all need to go, rather than relying on emotion, propaganda, exclusion and obfuscation to sustain the 'power' to exploit.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 231 of 2024

0920hrs:

An early start today and also an early daily weblog entry.

We are proceeding to another 'red zone of almost absent communication' in Haveli. It's going to be a long walk too.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 160 of 2023

2342hrs:

Day 18 of #AJKReferendum2023

Tough but that is how resilience is created.

I have always felt that my home/ancestral tehsil (subdivision) Sehnsa is the toughest of all 32 tehsils throughout AJK. Tougher than Haveli or Barnaala.

We provide an Urdu explanation for our global petition:

....

Our first roadblock emerged today when the building owner of the office we were renting received some oblique threats from Pakistan's clandestine agencies via the AJK police in Barnaala. The latter informed our landlord Faizan Subhani that we didn't have 'security clearance' for the work we were doing, which is essentially a euphemism for alerting our public that Pakistan's agencies are breathing down their neck. Nobody - and particularly those with assets - wish to get entangled with Pakistan's roving agencies.

After extensive deliberations with our well wishers in the vicinity of Moil and further afield, we decided that it would be imprudent if we put those very people that we are working for, in trouble. Yes, we are designing and implementing world class governance in our territory whose dividends should be received by our public at large, yet if these very people get agitated by our presence due to Pakistan's agencies creating havoc in their lives then our presence here would be counter productive.

It was agreed that we should complete #AJKReferendum2023 in the stronger parts of the territory and then use the momentum of that strength to complete our tasks in the weaker parts of AJK. Bhimber as a district has been traditionally weak - along with Haveli and Hattian - and thus we will venture north to Poonch division via Mirpur and Kotli:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 324 of 2022

1109hrs:

Day 168 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

0841hrs

Attendance = 100%
Punctuality = 62%
104 days on time or early of 168
Punctuality deficit = 23 minutes
Punctuality Consistency Status = 0 days

My consistent punctuality performance over the past 14 days (Second best performance to date in 168 days) has been deflated, almost as if in a flash. The punctuality surplus of 18 minutes has also reverted back to a deficit, quantified as 23 minutes in this case.

Our weekly offering in the shape of a live Facebook video in Pahaari on JKTV, enters its second week:

....

Here's yet another case (amongst countless such cases) of a citizen of ours being picked up from near the LOC, who the Pakistani security forces considered to be a threat of some sort and thus they carried out a familiar pattern of abduction and incarceration - without providing an opportunity for legal recourse - while abusing Geneva conventions.

Here's a statement in Urdu, followed by the ID card particulars of the incarcerated gentleman in question, which is then followed by a translation in English:

ID Card

Translation:

Name: Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah (son of) Syed Fazal Hussain Shah

Residence: Degwar, Tehsil & District Haveli, State of Jammu and Kashmir

11th September 2016

The Pakistani Army abducted me. For two and a half years they kept me in various torture cells and repeatedly meted out both mental and physical violence upon me. They did not allow me to speak in any manner whatsoever. They did not provide any facility for me to meet my wife and children. They kept me in dark cells. After two and a half years of making me endure such brutality they dumped me at Bagh jail in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK).

The Pakistani Army had sentenced me to 10 years long imprisonment which is an absolute travesty of justice, not least because I'm not even a citizen of Pakistan.

The Pakistani Army have occupied my proprietary land (in Degwar Haveli) where I live, situated near the LOC. On one side we are facing the Indian Army and on the other side we are facing the Pakistani Army.

The Pakistani Army accused me of being in contact with the Indian Army. Now, six years have elapsed in torture cells or jail.

The United Nations should take notice of these serious human rights violations by the Pakistani Army. I want to be released from this ordeal. My family and I need protection.

Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah

Further Notes:

MDS is a hospital run by the (Pakistani) Army, in front of which was Imtiaz Shah's shop selling herbal medicine. This is where he was abducted from (This place is known as Tachchan MDS) by some plain-clothed personnel while others were in police uniform.

Upon such disappearances, the provision of a lawyer is not available. Furthermore, many people who are taken away in such a manner are not able to bear the difficulties meted out to them in torture cells and they consequently die.

Nevertheless, when I was transferred to the civil jail in Bagh, I have since hired a lawyer. My case is being heard at the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court but even the court is unable to deliver justice as they are also faced with pressure from the Pakistani Army.

Despite this reality, I have lodged a case in court. (What other recourse is available to me in such circumstances?).

(Meanwhile, Imtiaz Shah was transferred from Bagh jail to Mirpur jail where he remains incarcerated)

End..

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 228 of 2022

1924hrs:

Day 72 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

0800hrs

My punctuality deficit has neither decreased or increased today. It remains stable at 322 minutes. It almost seems as if time has stood still, after 72 days of punctuality practice.

Update 2057hrs:

Something very gory and irresponsible happened in Haveli, Poonch AJK about 5 hours ago. Here's the Facebook post released a few minutes earlier:

For the sake of those who do not delve into the FB post here's what I wrote:

The #PakistanArmy is in serious trouble in AJK.
About 5 hours ago it is reported that a Pakistani Army truck travelling through #Haveli #Poonch #AJK crushed a local - Zahid Badar Qureshi - to death before fleeing from the scene.
The public is in uproar and the local administration has yet to engage.

We have some bloody pictures of the scene too. We strongly feel the evidence must be in public for the sake of accountable governance - which we have yet to witness - since 1947:

....

Update at 2317hrs:

No criminal proceedings have been conducted yet and the local administration is still frozen. Unconfirmed reports are surfacing that the Pakistani army driver was inexperienced and incapable of handling the army truck. The public have continued to vent their anger towards the Pakistani army at Kacheri Chowk in Haveli.

Their chants:

Qaatil Qaatil! (Murderers Murderers!)

Fauj Qaatil! (Army Murderers) with obvious reference to the Pakistani army

..then

Ye jo dehshat gardi hay (This terrorism)

Is ke peechay wardi hay (has a uniform behind it) with obvious reference to the Pakistani army's uniform

..then

Ye jo maara maari hay (These killings and mayhem)

Is ke peechay wardi hay (have a uniform behind it) with obvious reference to the Pakistani army's uniform

..then

Zaalimo jawaab do (Answer us oh oppressors)

Khoon ka hisaab do (give an account of the blood) you have spilled

..

Here's a report by JKTV:

This is an example of how our children on both sides of the divide are indoctrinated as Indians and Pakistanis. It doesn't get much crueller than this:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 38 of 2022

2023hrs:

Day 19 at Martyr's Square Kotli

Back to work on a Monday afternoon. Sunday was a rest day but not contrived by me.

......

The following is the 4th incident in the past few days of clandestine action to remove any public reference to an independent JKA in AJK:

Translation of Facebook post above:

2 days earlier in district Haveli we had conducted wall chalking on behalf of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) which has been erased by some 'unknown persons', which we strongly condemn.

We also appeal to the Haveli administration that they must take immediate action against these anti-social elements.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 286 of 2019

1259hrs:

Today, I'm going to spend a bit more time at the dharna (sit-in protest) at Jaskol, about 7 kilometres from the LOC, where thousands of our co-citizens have camped or visited since the 6th of October.

I might even deliver a live video or two, if I get the opportunity.

We did try here but the connection was alas, not strong enough:

.....

Meanwhile, our female co-citizens do not want to be left behind in this pursuit of relieving Srinagar:

..........

Gilgit Baltistan needs as much attention as us, if not more:

........

Haveli, which is more commonly referred to as 'Forward Kahuta' faces similar repression to that of Gilgit Baltistan. Haveli is remote as well as surrounded by the Indian army on 3 sides (East, North and South):

Translated thus:

In Forward Kahuta the administration have imposed Section 144 and workers of PNA (People's National Alliance) have been arrested for the alleged crime of putting up posters (in public spaces).

Zoheb Arif, Tayyib Riaz, Zahid Hussain, Abdullah Haseeb and Mehboob ul Haq have been detained in the police station. PNA strongly demands that the arrested workers be released immediately

4 hours later:

Translated thus:

Kahuta: The fear of PNA (People's National Aliance). The (local) police released the political workers after detaining them for 4 hours. However, all pamphlets and flags were confiscated.

Repeated threats of kidnapping (of political workers) were made. Demanding one's rights here (in AJK) invokes force (repression from the State) and (a continuing) drama over the freedom of Srinagar.

.......

Although this footage was recorded a couple of days ago, it does have a good portion of English commentary by yours truly:

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 260 of 2019

0922hrs:

The confrontation between the Pakistani narrative and the internal narrative in AJK is going to get more intense by the day:

Translated thus:

Quit Jammu Kashmir Movement

- The formal initiation of an awareness/public contact campaign has begun from district Bhimber

- We make an appeal to all patriots of this land and pro freedom (activists/citizens) to fully participate in this campaign and to begin a struggle for a prosperous future

The map is of all 10 districts in AJK. From South to North:

1) Bhimber

2) Mirpur
3) Kotli
4) Sudhnoti
5) Poonch
6) Haveli
7) Bagh
8) Hattian Bala
9) Muzaffarabad
10) Neelam Valley

End of translation....

........

Today, we have managed to reclaim a 90% success rate in daily blogging this year (2019).

That is, 234 days of 260 days this year have had a daily entry: 234 / 260 = 90%

This is a marked improvement on last year (2018).

That was, 255 days of 365 days last year had a daily entry: 255 / 365 = 69.9%

Last year was a drastic improvement on all the years before, since this blog came into being in 2008:

(Year)  (Entries)  (Annual Percentage)
2017:     5              = 1.4%
2016:     8              = 2.2%
2015:     5              = 1.4%
2014:     4              = 1.1%
2013:     7              = 1.9%
2012:     3              = 0.8%
2011:     51            = 14%
2010:     11            = 3%
2009:    37             = 10.1 %
2008:     18            = 8.3% (217 days of 365 from when the blog was created)

That gives us a mean average from the 10 years before 2018 of:  4.4% per year

We understand that many of our co-citizens as well as the net connected world in general use other more popular platforms for putting out their story e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Wordpress etc.

However, I prefer the functionality of this platform and it is my understanding that any aspect of my work can be referenced or pinpointed here, relatively easier than any other social media platform available.

......

Since yesterday, we've been hearing of rumours that the tribal Pathans (who 'helped' capsize the region of Jammu & Kashmir in 1947) are returning once again to Muzaffarabad. Here is footage from Abbotabad Adda (Bus Station) last night:

Here's further footage of them, with captions in English this time:

Unsurprisingly, this story is getting a lot of coverage in social media throughout AJK:

These Kabailis (Tribesmen) even held a press conference in Muzaffarabad today. They didn't forget to mention that Kashmir - both sides - belongs to Pakistan, in their opinion. Here's some video footage of the press conference, courtesy Dunya News:

So, this is aggression on the part of Pakistan. The Qabaili (Tribesman) who also happens to be a politician clearly said and I paraphrase: Both divided parts of Kashmir belong to Pakistan. He also equated the Pathan tribesmen with Pakistan, Kashmir and Muslims.

What is their intent?

The timing of this tribal visit is not incidental. It is also clearly State sponsored.

We need a direct forum with the UK on this matter, talking with Pakistan has always ended with silence and of late with bowed heads on their part.

The British empire had George Cunningham as Governor of NWFP (KPK today) when the forbears of today's visitors drum beat their way from the tribal areas - along the same Braarkot entry point in J & K in 1947.

The Pakistanis can no longer be controlling our police or our civil defence...they may well be leading us into another religious identity war......we need a local IGP (Inspector General of Police) for a start. We cannot have a repeat of 1947 except in reverse.

That is:

Initiatives for peace, dialogue and tolerance of distinct national(istic) narratives exist throughout J & K. The States of the world and global civil society should help us recognise these internal narratives, which are being violently suppressed by India and Pakistan.

We could also approach this regionally but at least one of India and Pakistan will have to play 'ball'. Which will it be?

In a personal capacity, I've had plenty of interactions with Pakistanis throughout my life and have only a few fond memories compared to the majority of those I remember for their intolerance, chicanery and use of Islam to cover their tracks.

I maybe biased on some way but I swear I had good relations with all other nationalities. I don't even remember anybody ripping me off except citizens of Pakistan, although it is possible one or two such crimes were committed by my co-citizens of AJK. Well, we have been controlled by them for 72 years.

I remember my Indian Gujerati and Bangladeshi friends in particular. They were always so hospitable, tolerant and never tried to trick me into anything for personal benefit.

....

Update 1830hrs:

Given the security scenario in AJK and what increasingly seems to be a not so subtle attempt by the State of Pakistan to promote freelance fighters to cross the LOC en masse, the best I can do at the minute is launch an online poll to remove the lent officer, under whose presumed command our AJK police are made to act against public opinion and public interest in AJK. A local civil intelligence mechanism and civil defence operating under the command and control of a local IG could help thwart this overbearing war narrative:

For those of you who can't read the content of the FB post above:

Measuring Public Opinion in AJK:

Having spent almost 14 and a half years on the ground in #AJK , in the interest of peace in #JandK The IGP AJK must now be an aspiring citizen & State subject of Jammu & Kashmir State forthwith.

Else we may see a repeat of 1947.

Answer with Yes, No or Don't Know (DK) before commenting please...

(Roman Urdu translation of above):

AJK me Awaami Rai ko Naapna:

Yaha Azad Jammu wa Kashmir me takreeban sadey chauda saal se zameen par kaam kiya. Jammu wa Kashmir ki aman ki khaatir - mera andaaza hayy - ke IG Police AJK ka aik purumeed shehri aur Jammu wa Kashmir ka Riyasati baashinda ab laazim hay forun.

Nahi to hum Unees so Sentaalees phir dohraengey.

Aap jawaab Ha, Na ya Nahi Pata (DK) pehle likhey aur phir agar aap ne kuch mazeed likhna hay to zaroor likhe...

End of FB post.....

A note from history:

.....

It isn't all sweet when AJK or POK is discussed in Delhi but this could be an exception:

..........

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter Faisal Malik originates from Kotli. He made his entry today in an 'Azad Kashmir' flag. He won the bout too!

In such an heightened environment where the internal narrative of AJK is crossing swords with the Pakistani narrative, some wonder why the Pakistani media isn't giving Faisal Malik any coverage, when they acted differently to when Amir Khan won a similar title. Is it because Amir Khan originates from Pakistan?

Meanwhile, here's Faisal's next bout for those of you interested:
