Countdown to end of 2025: 97 days

Waking up in Bagh and continuing routine of walking on empty stomach first thing in morning. Today is Day 4 in this regard.

I have a critical target to reach here in this district - that of achieving the value of 1 share of #PeaceBondAJK2025 (equivalent to £1,000 UK pounds sterling) - and the potential of doing so in Bagh is probably higher than in any other district. 

Let's see what transpires....

The following notes are in reference to Sonam Wangchuk, who was arrested today and packed off to jail in Jodhpur, Rajasthan about 1,000 miles away from his home in Ladakh.

I have always admired him as a polymath and innovator extraordinaire who is perhaps the foremost expert in JKA, who can navigate us all out of the ecological disaster we seem to be rushing towards, in the most ecologically sensitive region in the world.

Wangchuk was arrested and transported about 1,600km (1,000 miles) from home to jail in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, charged with “anti-national” activities, conspiring to overthrow the government, after a breakaway group from his protest engaged in violent clashes with security forces. Indian paramilitary soldiers shot dead four protesters after they had set the local office of Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on fire, and authorities accused Wangchuk of instigating the violence.

"It’s easier to fight foreign rule because then you are armed with the right emotional tools. But battling against your own becomes a tad more difficult. Welcome to our new POP culture- the Politics of Protest, where every demonstration is an International conspiracy. And where every voice of dissent is given innovative names. 

Who exactly is Mr. Sonam Wangchuk? He was one of the ‘Three Idiots’ who inspired a hit film. To sum up his ‘Anti- National activities’, he is a qualified Engineer and an Education reformist. Fresh out of college, he teamed up with his brothers and five others to set up the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL)- a programme training teachers to promote subjects relevant to the Ladakhi culture, prioritizing English over Urdu to prepare students for higher education. This ‘calculated’ effort proved to be a game-changer. In 2016, the earthen construction of SECMOL, designed by using solar technology, won the International Terra Award for the best building.

In 2018, for his ‘uniquely systematic, collaborative and community-driven reform of learning systems’ in a remote area, this ‘dangerous’ man was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award. If that wasn’t enough, the creative genius also went on to build a solar-heated tent for our soldiers to keep them warm in extreme cold. How appalling! I mean, can you even imagine people undertaking such personal sacrifices just to help their own people?

But wait. With his ‘cold’ and ‘chilling’ designs, this treacherous man is also credited with conceiving the Ice Stupa - tall artificial glaciers for storing water. Yes, he challenged Nature, terrorized the Himalayas, captured the retreating glaciers and invented a way to store winter water for irrigation. Just so the Ladakhi farmers would not face any more water crisis. 

These towering Ice structures (inspired by the Buddhist Stupas) stand as an awe inspiring symbol of innovation and sustainability in the enchanting region. The frozen project has also been recognized globally for its innovative approach to water conservation and climate adaptation. 

That’s not all, because the ‘anti-national’ was kind enough to share his environmental and educational innovations with mountain peoples across the Himalayan belt and went as far as Switzerland. WOW!  How can a simple, non-confrontational ‘radical rebel’, apart from repeatedly fasting unto death, also have time to continue to dream of ways to help the people of Ladakh? It’s ridiculous, right?  

Since 2019, when promises for Statehood were continuously ignored, the people of Ladakh felt alienated and cheated. Ever since, massive PEACEFUL protests have been going on, demanding jobs for the unemployed; democratic rights for Institutions; safeguards for the Constitution; and a greater role in the governance. 

Two years back Wangchuk announced a fast, to highlight the effects of climate change on Ladakh's fragile ecosystem. The authorities put him under house arrest. 

In March 2024, the then 58 year old started a fast-unto-death, not in the warmth of his room but in minus forty degrees at the Khardung La Pass, demanding protection of Ladakh from industrial and mining lobbies.  Nothing happened. 

Last September, armed with 20 others, the climate activist marched ALL the way from Ladakh to Delhi on foot. After a month long walk, they were detained outside Ladakh Bhawan. What he was asking for was nothing unreasonable. It was an assurance promised repeatedly for the Union Territory, but NEVER delivered. Nothing happened.  

On September 10th this year, the stubborn Mr Wangchuk began another 35-day fast. Yet again! Finally something happened.

After FIVE years of peaceful protest, when the floodgates of frustration was finally let loose and violence crept in, Wangchuk surrendered. He called off his fast saying his ‘message of peace failed’. When he was about to hold a Press Conference, he was arrested. 

‘All is well’ was a popular motivational chant in 2009. We were told that whenever ‘life goes out of control’, all we had to do was just yell ‘AAL IZZ WELL! And lo and behold, all our problems would be solved! If only it was that easy.

So is ALL well in the State of Ladakh?

You tell me; because change happens only when YOU decide who YOU want to become- the Know-It-All, the Blamer, the Cynic OR the Pragmatist, the Rationalist and the Realist!

My work output is satisfactory even though financial input from the public is at its most critical stage. For the first time in 2 decades my debts are hovering over the 1 lakh threshold. If the public doesn't help me swim soon, there is a danger of drowning.

Later this morning I was prompted to provide a summary of the financial responsibility of my co-citizens. Indeed, as of today I will be providing a new template for income, expenditure, assets and liabilities which will in due course be published in real-time (as soon as is possible) at jkapublicagency.org:

A summary of what is financially required from every co-citizen of AJK (including its diaspora) to ensure JKA PUBLIC AGENCY completes its preparation for a genuinely free government in AJK, including the training & full time employment of 2,000 data management specialists, proportionately representing each moza (administrative village in AJK) gradually. 

Tier 1:

£1, 000 (UK pounds) or its equivalent x 1 co-citizen, payable in installments up to the end of 2025. 

Tier 2:

£100 (UK pounds) or its equivalent x 10 co-citizens, payable in installments up to the end of 2025. 

Tier 3:

£10 (UK pounds) or its equivalent x 100 co-citizens, payable in installments up to the end of 2025. 

Tier 4:

£1 (UK pound) or its equivalent x 1,000 co-citizens, payable in installments up to the end of 2025. 

Notes:

1) All co-citizens who have publicly funded JKA PUBLIC AGENCY or its predecessors since 2012 can subtract whatever they have already paid from the amount required. 

2) If the target of 1,000 shares (a combination of any tier amounting to 1,000 x £1,000 viz. a million) is not met by the end of 2025 then all funds received since 2012 will be refunded over the course of 2026 and JKA PUBLIC AGENCY will cease operation, as of 1 January 2026.

3) This is an investment in governance and involves a strategy to generate returns of up to 100 times the money invested after 10 years. It is not a charity or a 'get rich quick' or an insurance policy or any other scheme. No 1 individual can invest more than once over the next decade, to ensure equal opportunity for every co-citizen rich or poor. 

4) All financial transactions (income & expenditure) as well as (assets & liabilities) will be transparent & available for scrutiny at jkapublicagency.org whilst the identity of individual investors will remain confidential.

The weather is still England-like, which has its immense benefits for the environment. However, it also usually means that we are deprived of electricity. 

Everything but inevitable death is resolve-able and our passion to resolve all inhumane elements in our governance endures. We still have 300 days and a week to address this.

Public Alert for the people of AJK:

#Conflict2Peace Financial Strategy in Journey from #AJK to #JKA

Aim - for the public of AJK (& its diaspora) to directly fund the formation of a genuine people's government in AJK; using strictly peaceful, ethical, democratic and legal means.

This financial strategy has emerged after almost 20 years of a struggle - in general since April 2005 and focussed since September 2009 - which gradually created the following:

JKA PUBLIC AGENCY is a unique public institution in that it is exclusively owned by the public of AJK, while it has absolutely no affiliation or commitment to or with any country or other public institution, anywhere in the world.

From its origins of almost 2 decades, it has always upheld 4 non-negotiables with all its own people (the public of AJK & its diaspora), with all its co-citizens in the rest of JKA, with all its neighbouring countries and with the rest of the world - all powers large and small. 

1) Geopolitical neutrality

2) The 'Riyasati' (People's) Reference

3) Ideological harmony & co-existence (of whatever nature: religious, political, philosophical etc.) 

4) Ecological concerns of the territory of JKA 

These have been the poles that have evolved and matured as our compass since the outset of this un-anticipated journey in April 2005. This forms the roots of a contemporary Citizen-State contract from AJK to JKA.

In recognition of all sacrifices made by our co-citizens before this era and that have been made since, this is a new dynamic era which heavily relies on economy, technology, research, law and creating the necessary people's power behind that law.

We have a choice to either resign ourselves to continue investing in a #ConflictEconomy and pay the price for coming generations, or we can begin investing in a #PeaceEconomy .

At JKA PUBLIC AGENCY we have created an elaborate financial strategy which should deliver gains of 10,000% on a 10 year fixed deposit, equivalent to 1,000 (one thousand) UK pounds (or c. 3.5 lakhs in local currency), payable over a year. Of the approximately 2,200 of our co-citizens who have financially contributed since 2012 (when we began direct public funding), they can subtract what they have accumulatively paid so far from this amount of £1,000 and pay the balance (in installments over a year if they wish).

The gains we envisage are 100 x, which means 1,000 UK pounds invested today should be worth 100,000 UK pounds in 10 year's time. These gains are estimated in line with the projected growth of the AJK economy over the next decade as we move towards a genuinely free government, whereby the current 'government' is operating in minus and when economic levers are restored here, we would convert from an economy worth less than a billion (US dollars) today, to one that is worth at least 10 billion (US dollars) in 10 year's time. During this period, JKA PUBLIC AGENCY would also be investing in the economy and thus, making better use of the growth envisaged, compared to the economy as a whole.

Those of our co-citizens who consider their financial capacity to be less than the amount requested (viz. the equivalent of £1,000 payable over a year) they can partner with other co-citizens to create shares within 1 share, according to their individual capacities. For example, if someone is capable of investing £100 they can find 9 other co-citizens who can contribute an equal share within this 1 particular share.

Every co-citizen can only buy 1 share over this 10 year period, so that every other co-citizen has an equal opportunity in becoming a shareholder.

I will be sending this note directly and individually to as many of my co-citizens as possible (beginning Fri 17 January 2025), while keeping a public statistical record of how many people have responded and in what manner at jkapublicagency.org and AJK Public Treasury's Facebook page at: facebook.com/ajkpublictreasury

If I - Tanveer Ahmed - operating on behalf of JKA PUBLIC AGENCY am not able to convince at least 1,000 of my co-citizens to part with the equivalent of £1,000 in the year 2025, then I will have to resign from working in the public interest of AJK > JKA.

I will then resort to resume living a private life for private interests where I will no longer be able to advocate or protect the national interest of JKA, as I have been doing, particularly since September 2009. I will of course, return all the money that has been provided to me by the public since 2012.

This journey which started as 'subject' to 'citizen' in April 2005 has been a uniquely testing experience for me as an individual and of course for all my well-wishers (including my family & friends). I do know that such a social experiment has never been attempted before (to be at the mercy of the public's benevolence, especially since 2012) and I don't know if such an experiment can be attempted by anybody in the future. Indeed, I'm not even sure that our people's reference (which provides us - aspiring - citizens overwhelming legal authority over the territory of JKA) will account for anything, if a genuine people's government is not restored/created in AJK in the very near future. Such have the efforts of our neighbours and global powers matured with respect to this territory that AJK is the last remaining bastion of the people's reference. This has been my compass from the outset and I have maintained its direction thus far.

Please do not hesitate to question me on this matter, which has affected us all for generations and will continue to do so unless 'we - the people' choreograph the future.

As if by instinct I am getting up near that 0500hrs target every morning. In fact, this morning I actually got up at 0300hrs, did some work and then fell back asleep to wake at 0615hrs. I have also relieved myself from having to sleep during the day to make up for shortcomings at night.

I feel like I'm raring to go on matters of efficiency. I just need to get back to base in Sehnsa and work on all those pending issues in reference to waste management & soil management in particular.

Still in Dadyaal though I should have moved on today, back to Sehnsa. My routine has gone haywire. Although I still woke up at around 0500hrs I drifted back to sleep after a few hours, waking up at some point in the afternoon. An additional 6 hours on top of the 5 at night.

It is now routine that I automatically wake at around 0500hrs. Even an alarm clock is no longer necessary. Today I got up at 0515hrs.

Began my walk not soon after as I have been doing for the past few days. 

Waking up in Dadyaal rather than Sehnsa this morning has made no difference.

Despite getting up at 0630hrs rather than the 'stipulated' 0500hrs I feel that I have broken some barriers or decimated some cobwebs of lethargy that have been present for the past 4 months or so. It so happened that work compelled me to work through until 0300hrs and I didn't eventually get to sleep till 0400hrs, yet still got up 2.5 hours later. My quota of sleep at the time of writing amounts to just that 2.5 hours at the time of writing.

I have also phased in other aspects into my life which will build my daily efficiency. More details in due course.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 110 of 2024

0512hrs:

I have managed to get up at 0500hrs sharp for the past 4 days in a row, like a bolt almost. That isn't where the problem lies. It's how I manage the rest of the day that is crucial.

It seems rain is forecast for the foreseeable future and that does affect our outdoor work - even though it shouldn't - strictly speaking. It also affects our supply of electricity which incidentally has been absent since about midnight. This is going to affect our indoor work too, as I am taking the support of an external monitor to use my laptop. 

Nevertheless, one motors on regardless and there are plenty of things to do at home, even in the absence of electricity. Piles of paperwork for a start!

It is heartening & solidifying that I managed to work through the day without drifting back to sleep. I hadn't really got much sleep during the night, which probably amounted to 2 hours at best. Nevertheless, by 1700hrs I needed to sleep and did so until c. 2030hrs. Thus, 2 + 3.5 = c. 5 and a half hours of sleep today. A big improvement on the 17 hours yesterday.

Daily Diary (DD) - Day 109 of 2024

1444hrs:

Our trials and tribulations over the optimum amount of rest continue. Despite a good night's sleep which effectively began at about 2200hrs during our evening X Space yesterday and then waking up very fresh at 0500hrs this morning, I felt compelled to go back to sleep at c. 0700hrs and woke up again at c. 1300hrs. That is 7 + 6 = 13 hours of sleep today, Effectively, the same amount of 'rest' as yesterday.

As if that wasn't enough I felt the need to sleep a further 4 hours from about 1600hrs to 2000hrs, bringing the tally today to 17 hours. I need to do a lot to reverse this.

Every political party in AJK wants to make us all part of little (political) tribes in a subdued territory. Every (political) tribe wants their (political) tribe to be seen as a stronger (political) tribe than other (political) tribes.

Some of these tribes try to gain strength & validation from Pakistan, some from India, some are ostentatious enough to seek strength & validation from larger powers while some try to do the same by co-opting ideologies that seek global dominance like socialism > communism or 'Islamism'.

None of them seem to genuinely want to see a nation come out of its shackles - and much less - have a plan to do so.

As a nation we have great trouble validating each other, which can be the source of our strength but are keen to obtain validation from the rest of the world.

This cannot be done as a part(y). It must be done as a whole. With an initiative that inclusively connects the specific geography of AJK with all its people, or at least a substantial amount more than the amount who take part in elections every 5 years.

3,220,793 was the total number of people on the voter's list (which in my opinion is an inflated amount) of which apparently 61% participated according to the source above.

That would amount to a figure of 1,964,684 (1 million 964 thousand and 684 people) who participated in the last general election in AJK in 2021. 

In terms of perception at least, almost 2 million took part in validating the system of governance in AJK in 2021.

JKA PUBLIC AGENCY estimates that we would need at least 2.5 million respondees to #AJKReferendum2023 to make global institutions & the world in general (including our neighbours) take us seriously. We would still need political representatives from each internal political constituency in AJK to represent public opinion.

In just under 11 months we have achieved c. 500,000 respondees so far. Still only about 20% of the minimum required target and less than 15% of the total target, which I estimate to be about 3 million.

There is still so much to do for the people to restore 'The Right to Rule' in AJK.

I think it is time for political parties operating in AJK to seriously introspect their strategies to mobilise the public, otherwise we will soon reach a stage of 'no return'.

(working chairman of JKLF currently residing in Texas USA and originally from Uri on the Indian controlled side of JKA while living a significant amount of his life in Chikaar and Muzaffarabad AJK)

Tanveer Raja's note provides a thought-provoking analysis of the political landscape in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), specifically in relation to the exclusion of pro-independence political parties from contesting in AJK Assembly elections. Quayyum Raja 

(A senior member of the JKLF who has been a lifelong advocate for the freedom of Jammu Kashmir and has many sacrifices to his credit - both while incarcerated for over 2 decades in the UK and subsequently while struggling on the ground in AJK for almost 2 decades)

Tanveer Ahmed's scientific work is too heavy for existing politicians to comprehend and appreciate, whose all efforts are confined to self-serving campaigns. In name, they are politicians and political parties, but politicians and political parties usually have visions and commitment, which they badly lack. They rely on tribal politics, because they are not sure of their own selves.

The change can be brought about by the people and our people's level is too low. They don't know nor understand anything other than tribal politics. However, inclusivity is the only way forward. The younger generation should be involved in any discussion for change, because those considered old hawks are unlikely to reform themselves.

0517hrs:

Yes, I have got up at 0500hrs sharp for 2 days in a row! It isn't easy getting into this groove but the best achievements in life are never easy. I did make it to bed at 2345hrs yesterday and a despite a couple of hiccups along the way I did get a better quality of sleep compared to yesterday. My total aggregate of sleep so far today has been about 5 hours. I may crash for an hour in the afternoon to make up the 6 hours needed for the day and hopefully will not extend it to 4 hours like yesterday.

Onwards and upwards as many have said....

However, it didn't turn out to be quite onwards and upwards yet as I began feeling drowsy at 1000hrs and felt compelled to rest. This 'rest' kept me separated from the world till 1800hrs. Thus. 5 hours at night + 8 hours in the afternoon = 13 hours in total. I have to struggle harder.

0719hrs:

So, here's the deal. I must sleep at 2300hrs sharp and wake up at 0500hrs sharp. I got the second part exactly right today and the first part I inevitably - through habit - struggled with. I didn't actually get any sleep at all, though I was determined to keep my eyes closed as if asleep, despite the distractions of technology which kept me busy until 0200hrs. I then proceeded for my morning walk at 0500hrs sharp. 

Despite not sleeping at all, I feel reasonably fresh and it seems lying down and keeping one's eyes closed in the dark does assist immensely.

The dying cries of a bird lying on the road - obviously hit by a speeding vehicle as it was in low flight - greatly disturbed me. Its eye was bulging as it lay almost flattened but still breathing. I felt so helpless as I know there is nothing institutional in our midst (the UK has the RSPCA which stands for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). In fact, even those institutions dedicated to humans in this seemingly god-forsaken territory leaves much to be desired. 

This dampened my spirits after witnessing such a beautiful morning mist over my village.

By midday. I couldn't keep myself going any longer. I intended to rest for an hour which extended till 1600hrs. 4 + 3 = 7 hours in this 24 hour cycle. Indeed, it still aggregates to much better than hitherto.

Today should have been a day of normalisation but it wasn't. I did aim to get to sleep at 2300hrs but didn't succeed until about 0100hrs this morning. I did get up at midday (after 11 hours) but the rain and overcast environment put me back to sleep again until 1700hrs. Thus, almost 16 hours of sleep....the longest I've had in quite a while.

0750hrs:

Yet again, this has been another all-nighter after yesterday's 14 hours in the sack. I am aiming to sleep tonight at 2300hrs as soon as our daily Space on X finishes.

I did finally get to sleep at c. 1100hrs and woke up at 1700hrs which is the optimum amount of 6 hours but of course the timing is atrocious. 6 + 14 hours yesterday would give an average of 10 hours over 2 days which is still less than respectable. 

Rain over the past couple of days has given us a sense that the winter hasn't quite departed yet despite closing in on the middle of April.

1813hrs:

Inevitably, today was a rest day. I went to sleep at c. 0200hrs and woke up at around 1600hrs in the afternoon. A total of 14 hours. I am hoping that this will be my last break for a while. Such a long stint of sleep should be a once in a month occasion.

Yet another all-nighter but for different reasons than usual. Nevertheless, I did get about 3 hours of sleep between 1100hrs and 1400hrs. 3 hours in total.

2304hrs:

A day of travel....which usually affects my desk work in a significant way. Got to sleep at 0200hrs and managed to get up at 1100hrs. 9 hours in total. Felt very drowsy while driving and had to put in another hour of rest at my first destination of the day in Mirpur.

Inevitably perhaps, last night was another 'all-nighter'. I am now really determined to ensure that a new crisp routine can emerge after the upheaval witnessed for the last 100 days.

2235hrs:

A lacklustre Ramadhan overall. A lot of spiritual commitment on my part was missing. I had my more than fair share of 'rest' during this month.

Sleeping for an hour before Sehri and then sleeping about 9 hours from about 0600hrs in the morning to about 1500hrs in the afternoon has been a norm.

This is why I am reluctant to blame others and concentrate on identifying where blame can be fairly apportioned to me.

Today was even better than yesterday but still a long way off from where I need to be. It was yet another all-nighter but I got to sleep at 0600hrs and got up again at 1400hrs. A total of 8 hours in the sleep bank today!
