Daily Diary (DD) - Day 160 of 2022

Day 4 at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square - Dadyaal.

It was an early start today too but I couldn't write the entry in time before proceeding for my daily shift at Maqbool Bhat Shaheed Square in Dadyaal.

As with our sit-in public policy workshop at Shaheed Chowk (Martyr's Square) Kotli we continue to conduct our very own census data collection, while we wait for the UK Government to provide us with the last collected census records for this territory (when unified as a princely State) in 1941.

Here's Waheed Raja, who has spent almost 2 decades back home - here in Dadyaal - whereas hitherto he had been labouring in the United Kingdom. His saga is long but he's been in a constant fight to save his ancestral land. Some of it was subsumed by the Mangla reservoir project while other significant parts have been contested by a mixture of land mafia and the notoriously corrupt land revenue department.

It has rained this evening after many a day. All hail the Lord of the heavens.

This example of uncontrollable forest fire in Smaahni has been raging for the past 2 months:
