Mirpur is actually New Mirpur, as the grand old one was drowned so that our neighbours could prosper. Yet they didn't really prosper and we weren't readily altruistic either.
Our relationship has almost always been one-sided though, in favour of our neighbour cum occupier. We've witnessed a downward graph since 1947, except a minor jolt in 1970.
