Daily Diary (DD) - Day 80 of 2026

0530hrs:

A late start (getting up at 0500hrs) but a true start, having gone to sleep by c. 2300hrs last night. Now that Eid ul Fitr is upon us (the first day of Shawwal) we can work on getting this daily sleeping pattern right. 2000hrs to 0300hrs is the target. I was 3 hours late at the top end (sleeping) and 2 hours late at the bottom end (waking).

The transparency of this performance will ultimately (and hopefully imminently) assist me in getting this right.

Now this is a true start, as I fell asleep soon after 2100hrs and got up at 0320hrs. This is almost within an hour (each side) of the ideal & optimum pattern of sleep, that I've aspired for, for almost a year now.

Now into Day 78, I have quietly surpassed my previous best of maintaining a 100% record till Day 69 of 2022, before I was arrested and sent straight to jail in Kotli. This ensured that I missed 4 days of blogging that year, eventually making daily entries for 361 of 365 days that year. This year - 4 years on - I have an opportunity to make it 365 of 365 days for the year. Of course, this is life permitting as well as liberty permitting too.

Yet another false start as we witness the end of another blessed month of Ramadhan. Yes, this month was utilised well in fits and spurts but so much could've been more consistent. Another venture to Mirpur, arriving in the penultimate hour of yesterday.

There is almost 36 hours between today's weblog entry and yesterday's. My daily routine has been disrupted like never before. I slept at c. 0300hrs this morning having had an early Sehri and just woke up before midday. This feels light years away from my optimum daily sleeping pattern.

This is certainly the earliest daily blog of this year and there is 'reason' for it. I've been trying to sleep since just beyond 2200hrs last night, without success of course. 

I found myself too restless and too tuned to the future to remain lying in bed in the dark, doing my utmost to not think about anything and just drift away to that other realm, where my human batteries would be sufficiently recharged to enjoy a full day of work in Sehnsa, later today.

Except that the whole day was spent at home and not in Sehnsa, as originally planned.

A late start today, even though I did get up for Sehri (pre-dawn meal in Ramadhan) at c. 0400hrs, having slept at c. 2200hrs last night (an hour earlier than normal given my routine in this month of fasting). I did fall back asleep at 0600hrs and got another 6 hours of sleep, waking up at midday, just as well for a Sunday.

I - Tanveer Ahmed - have only watched this short video, just beyond midnight on Sat 14 March 2026 but have been a long time student (from afar) of the life of Lee Kuan Yew, perhaps the most impactful man of the 20th Century. 

He had ideas, intellect and action all in one. 

We in #JKA can learn more from him than any other human of the 20th Century, I think.

1652hrs:

A very late entry today but with reasonably good reason. It took me to beyond 0200hrs this morning to get to sleep and I missed out on Sehri, waking up around midday. It was then too late for me to log this entry, given that I had to shower and also get to Sehnsa by 1300hrs, by hiking a lift too!

It was all too much and I eventually joined the anti-war procession in Sehnsa at about 1320hrs. A lot to address, even at his mature stage of this 'Subject to Citizen' journey.

Almost on the dot but alas another false start. An all-nighter was due yesterday, it just had a delayed impact of 24 hours. We continue marching on towards that ideal sleeping pattern (2000hrs to 0300hrs).

Returned home to my village Gurutta today, Kokoi is the name of my hamlet (sub-village).
